The team didn't make post-season at all the last 2 years. A realistic goal would have been the NIT. The potential dates for the NIT games were known way in advance.

Why would you have other events (gymnastics, etc.) scheduled during this time at home and set yourself up to have to turn down opportunity to host NIT game(s)?

Ummm dude they're a 6 seed. They were going on the road anyway.

not sure what your point is.

Obviously the AD was more interested in finding new ways to get parking fees for the upcoming football season.

LSU had no first or second round problems, besides a gymnastics meet. But that could be easily taken care of.

From what I read on here, we have said that we can't host any games...for example if Dayton had scheduling issues with NCAA regional in their house, we could have gotten the potential 2nd round home game...or host a higher seed in the quarters.

There won't be any "upsets"? Iowa might win their home game.

Point being LSU has no chance at hosting a game instead of a slight chance.

We can't host because the Women's NCAA Tourney takes precedent.

We also would have had to put in a bid to host, and we did not.

That's not necessarily true.

Why does it matter? So we host a game and have 8,000 empty seats on ESPN? That would be special

We had 12696 in the 2002 NIT game vs. Ball State (not sure if that was paid or actual)

You obviously haven't watched a basketball game the last few seasons.

People were excited that team made the NIT. Big difference.

the NIT is all about attendance.

what makes you think our shitty fans would come to watch an NIT game when they couldn't even show up to fill the PMAC when #1 Kentucky came to town?

The PMAC wasn't full, but there was a good crowd for that game. Also, lots of people impugning the fanbase, but who, pray tell, are these great fans that show up and watch a lousy boring product?

i've gone to every game but two this yr. there is a small group of people in BR that actually supports the basketball program win or lose.

it's funny to see our "fans" trash the team when they are down, but the minute we start winning, they are the biggest fans ever.

makes me sick.

Two quick things -- yes the LSU Ath Dept drops the ball on things and I'm all for LSU playing in the NIT.

However, the NIT has been completely revamped (to the good) over the last five years. No longer can a 14-14 team play a home game if they offer up enough money. Teams are seeded and bracketed. 10 years ago you may have won a game in the NIT that night and gone to bed not knowing who you'd play.Only the top 4 teams in each bracket are afforded the OPTION of hosting games. And then after each round its the higher seed's option.

With all of that said no way on Earth should the LSU Athletic Department declined an opportunity to host the womens' tourney based on the possibility of hosting an NIT game.Honestly, NO program should. And with LSU being a six seed this took care of itself.

Now, had LSU been a four seed or higher it was possible to have played the game (if it was manageable) at the old Parker Center. Kentucky had a conflict with the Kentucky HS playoffs at Rupp in 2009 and played a game at Memorial Coliseum where they played (and their women still do) until Rupp was completed and North Carolina played a game in 2010 at the old Carmichael Auditorium. Whatever the Centroplex is called now could have been a site.
