I think you need a .338-06 or a 35 whelen instead of a little old arse 280 AI.

I have a .338 win mag, .375 Ruger, and a .45/70 already. And a .454 casull revolver if I need to beat one over the head in hand to hand combat. I am good on big bores. What I don’t have is a 280 AI. The .375 ruger is so punishing to shoot it is not fun. But that 280, I think it would be a pleasure.

Ahhh man you got a good spread there.

You need some good classic metric stuff. 7x57, 9.3x62, 6.5x55. Something like that

Want.

If only Weatherby would have kept producing rifles and ammo in this caliber.

There's a Mark V Ultra Light 338-06 for sale on Gunbroker right now.

Could you not just get a remington for a donor action and have it rebarreled in .338/06? You could buy a new one, have it rebarrelled, put in a timney and be in it for $1000 or less.

Yes. Or just have a .30 cal or less in '06 flavor rebored to 338-06.

The issue is when Weatherby stopped making the rifles and ammo, there was no other company making the factory ammo. And I don't reload.

Hendershot's makes some custom ammo for it, though.

Was wanting a .300 or 30-06/.270 but with the ammo shortage I after this thread, I am starting to think I'm gonna go with .308 especially as those would also have been a perfect round for a certain other gun that I lost off that damn boat.

and went with .270 ... .270 is very flat shooting, and will reach out and touch...like 500+meters

Yet somehow, 270 is still somehow underrated and seen as an 'old timer' caliber. It's insane. It's basically the flattest shooting common rifle round there is.

I think of ammo availability and knock down power.

30-06

.308
