I understand. A lot of charities and non profits are like WW in this way. Some are probably way worse. United Way, for example, which has a huge presence in BR; roughly 50 cents on the dollar goes to salaries and expenses. Only half of the money goes to where you want to send it. Compare that to Red Cross, over 90% of donations go to people in need. (Numbers aren't exact, it's been a while since I've liked up the actual figures)

I'm sorry I don't think the 200 bucks he spent on repelling rope is a big deal. Could they do without that? Probably, but it's really not a huge deal. You guys want to rail against the charity that does more than all other veterans charities do combined then go right ahead.

Check out Special Operations Warrior Foundation. About 94 % goes where you want it to go

Maybe I want to give to a foundation that doesn't believe that SOF forces are more worthy of help than the average kid who gets wounded.

Point taken. Still, I prefer to allocate charitable contributions where more of my $ goes to the intended recipients. Also, an old friend is in the administration of SOWF.

FWIW, Wounded Warrior did respond to the CBS report.

take it as you will. Just wanted to give yall WWP's side of the story. the link includes a PDF of the formal letter. Sounds like CBS made shite up. Why remains to be seen.

1. FALSE STATEMENT BY CBS: WWP spends 60% on veterans.
TRUTH: Based on our most recent independently audited financial statements, 80.6% of total
expenditures went to provide programs and services for wounded service members, their
caregivers, and families. As stated above, WWP’s Board Member and Audit Committee Chair,
Richard M. Jones, CBS Executive Vice President, General Tax Counsel, and Chief Veteran
Officer, reviews and approves all of WWP’s financial documents and audits.
2. FALSE STATEMENT BY CBS: WWP spends $26,054,363 on conferences and
meetings for staff.
TRUTH: CBS falsely reported our conference and meeting expenses. 94% of the figure CBS
reported as conference and meetings for staff was actually a program expense for warriors and
their families to participate in services such as mental health programming.
3. FALSE STATEMENT BY CBS: WWP spent $3 million on an annual training
conference that was nothing more than a lavish party.
TRUTH: Budget figures reported by CBS for the annual training are absurd and patently false.
The annual training conference costs an average of $1,500 per person, which includes all
expenses for travel, meals, accommodations, and materials for four days. During WWP’s annual
training session, WWP conducts strategic planning and program development to ensure we are
operating effectively as an organization. No alcohol is purchased by the organization at the
training.

1. Not doubting what you've posted -- but as the former IRS auditor pointed out, putting this info on a tax return affords a higher level of credibility (since anything false that is sent to the IRS is submitted under penalty of perjury).
2. Since you're obviously pretty knowledgeable about WWP, you may be able to shed some light on the anti-gun position that Tom Gresham discussed on his show 2-3 years ago. This link sorta sums up the way it was left at that time: LINK
Any update ?

Did you see the video? It was completely over the top. It was about him. Not veterans. It is an indication of how he views his position as CEO and how he spends the money.
I know rope isn't expensive. That wasn't my point.

all I saw was this:
quote:
Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is NOT anti-gun
Any statements to the contrary are false and untrue. WWP has always supported the Constitution of the United States of America, including the Second Amendment. We recognize these are freedoms our service members fought and sacrificed to protect. Our mission focus is on supporting our nation's wounded veterans and providing therapeutic and beneficial programs, including hunting and outdoor activities. We have a long history of facilitating and sponsoring activities that involve firearms. We value the contributions we receive from fundraisers and donors, including the firearm and sporting industry and organizations.
again, this is from their website. I don't have any additional insight into them. I'm just a monthly donor like many here, but hate to think the organization would suffer due to misinformation.
eta: I've read the Tom Gresham link you posted- twice. It seems to me both sides are being inflexible. WWP doesn't want to align itself with certain industries for marketing campaigns. Fair enough. Tom doesn't appreciate that and doesn't want to support them. Fair enough as well. Don't support them. I just think Gresham is acting like a bit of a SJW trying to shame WWP into participating in something is doesn't want to participate in. Its simple: don't donate if you don't want to. But I think Gresham looks petty. Like a little kid who isn't getting his way so hes pitching a fit. JMO.

WWP should take this to court and see that everyone in the CBS organization that had a role in this story gets the Dan Rather treatment.
Let's see the truth come out.

Yeah, you would be one of them. For reasons that are based in fiction, they do not want to "co brand" with the firearm industry. It's absurd.
Posted on 1/28/16 at 7:32 pm to DownSouthDave
Why is it absurd? They aren't anti gun. They aren't aligning themselves with Sara fricking Brady or anti 2nd amendment groups. Maybe they're trying to stay neutral. Ever occur to you that they might be getting donations from people who don't share your political view? Heaven forbid you agree to disagree and focus on what the group does. They aren't like you, so screw em, right?

And this makes them anti-2nd amendment?!
