Last week while walking my lab at 6am, a pit ran up to us in the dark. It was a smaller female with a collar but it was showing aggression toward my dog. I don't always carry a gun on my morning walks but I did have a 500 lumen surefire and a knife. Luckily that was enough but if the dog would have latched onto my dogs neck, I would have slit that bitches throat in a second.

My dog grew up wrestling with a pit so he can handle himself well. Other dogs typically get pissed at him because he couldn't care less about them at a dog park. All he wants is toys and to piss on everything. He has had two dogs go after him, and I ran up and punched/kicked the other dogs. I would bring the pain if they were really hurting him though.
No idea why they get mad at him for not paying attention to them, but they do.
Bapple, be jealous. Here is the real Beaux when he graduated LSU in 2011. That dog is a genius. I am convinced he is gonna be a doctor some day

My daughter has a dachshund so it would depend on the circumstances.

I got my wife a minature schnauzer, but I'll admit I love that little thing. It definitely has the little dog complex though and often antagonizes dogs much bigger than her.
Several times the big dogs have actually ran at her teeth exposed and snarling. I've popped dogs right in the mouth with my fist, once actually catching the tooth and getting a nice wound, and once straight up dropped kicked one sending it flying a good four feet. Didn't even think twice about doing it.
If it came to having to put a bullet in the other dog you can bet your arse I'd do it.

I'm pretty sure I wouldnt have to defend my catahoula. I've also learned not to try to get in between two dogs fighting. I love my dog, but I love the use of my hands more.

Knife is the answer here.
Works quick and no noise.

I have been in that very situation, and did something in between.
Neighbor's Bull Mastiff had my Golden by the neck. It wasn't the first time they had scrapped, and it was always in MY YARD. I had warned the neighbor (across the street) that she needs to keep her horse in her yard.
Anywho, about the time I got out there, (with pistol in hand), she arrives at the end of my driveway (with RIFLE in hand). Starts TELLING ME to SHOOT HER DOG! I told her to put her rifle down and I would. She did, and I popped a cap into the ground right next to the dogs, which both departed the scene in opposite directions.
I chased my dog down and took him to the vet, but after I got back (he spent several days there), I went and had a talk with her. I explained to her that not only did I value my dogs life, but I had (at the time) a 2 year old, and if I ever saw her dog on my property again, he would be dead and on her doorstep. I demanded she get rid of the dog within 24 hours, and she complied.
She has this friggin aggressive Bull Mastiff behind literally a 4' chain link fence. That thing could step over that fence...and did often. I doubt he would've done anything to my son, but dammit, he nearly killed my dog, and it wasn't the first time I'd had to get him off my dog.
Still glad I didn't shoot it though.

I don't see how that would help the situation.

I hit the bull mastiff I was talking about with a 5 gallon bucket of water, then the bucket, then the hose, and he wouldn't let go. It was then that I went to get the pistol, at which time the owner had made it outside with her rifle.
When I say I hit him with the hose, I'm talking about whipping the hose end across his back. Didn't faze him

My wife has a 10 lb fuzzy ankle bitter, he is a big baby when on the leash. When I let him off he will follow and bark while keeping a 50 ft distance so still a big puss.
Several times when walking in the neighborhood this little 5 lb mean as hell you poodle has comes after him.
I do thourpughly enjoy punting that little dog.

In that place you are opening yourself up for some liablity IMO.
It would be a tough call. Just makes me think I would need to take something like a stick or bat I could use instead of shooting it b/c sure as shite if you shoot it some liberal Democrat will be calling the cops before your brass hits the ground

I fugging hate dog parks, if i do go to one and i see a dumb arse with a bully breed i put my dog on leash and leave.
But yes i would shoot a attacking dog. If you grab the offending dogs rear legs and pick it up off the ground it usually will let go then you do an airplane spin into the nearest tree or trafic.

I'd try kicking the attacking dog a couple times really hard. If failed to release, then pop a cap in his arse.
However, if the attacking dog was any breed that folks use for fighting, then shoot 'em...no warning...you don't want one of those things latching on your leg.

This is why I dont go to dog parks, because if someones a-hole dog bit mine Id kill them and then probably the owner.
