Worst Day on Toledo Bend Ever

I always post and brag on here when I have a good hunt or fishing trip, so it's only fair that I come clean and tell the truth.
I got a call from 2 different guys that told me the "lake was on fire" Monday. I convinced my boss to go so we loaded up and headed down.
We started the morning about 9 am launching out of Shadows and fishing a bunch of spots towards the big lake in Tennessee Bay avoiding the muddy Negreet Creek area. I threw a wacky worm mostly, trying probably 10 different colors. No bites.
Other things I tried: Spinnerbait, rattle trap, Texas rigged lizard (multiple colors), and a Texas rigged crawfish just to change the creature. No bites. None.
Finally about 1 pm I tied up a pearl white fluke just so I could watch my bait. I wasn't seeing shite else in the water. On the fifth cast I pulled it over the lip of a flooded seawall and about a 3 pound female rolled on it. I told my boss, "Here we go. That happened way to fast to be a coincidence." Sure enough I fished about 100 more yards (20 cast or so) and a small buck bass rolled on it. We fished another 20 minutes or so, but it was getting near 2 pm so we broke for lunch and trailered up to Toledo Town for a burger.
My boss bought himself 2 packs of white flukes.
Big mistake.
We put in at North Toledo Bend State Park, and hit a spot where Polar Pop and I caught a few weekend before last. Nothing.
We continued to fish the fluke with ultimate faith and confidence the next 3 hours or so without a bite. For the last hour I picked my wacky worm back up but again it produced no bites. It was getting dark.
frick me.
So what went wrong? We fished shallow with flukes and worms, and out to 6-8 feet with rattle traps and spinnerbaits.
The water was 64-66 degrees throughout the day.
The biggest difference I noticed was that pollen had covered the water heavily... Maybe the fish have allergies.
Also of note, there were boats everywhere. Incredibly packed for a Wednesday. I never saw anyone else catch a fish all day long.

It happens. Even when on paper they should be jumping into the boat.

That sounds like the way I jinx 'em when the lake's on fire!
Keep ur hook wet.

Haven't fished Toledo, but this week the bites have been a lot harder to come by than they were a week ago, for me anyway. Fished Caddo all day Tuesday and only caught 4. Fished Cupress yesterday evening and only caught 5 rats. I thought I would be killing th this week. My guess is the falling water has them buggered up, or maybe I just suck.

Another detail I left off. I threw a micro spin with a monkey milk jig 2 feet under a cork for 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there probably 5 or 6 different times and never got a bite. I knew something was wrong. I've caught bream, white perch and large mouth on that. Everything will eat those...

Is the water level dropping any? We are headed there tomorrow. Oh and sounds like y'all had a tough day

According to the pollen rings around the trees it has fallen about 4 to 6 inches. I don't think that was caused by wave action because even protected trees and cover had the same water/pollen marks.

This is probably the reason; fish were under too much pressure.

this was yesterday?
I've always had horrible days on Toledo when the weather was awesome.
The best days are always those cloudy, rainy, windy days.
Clear and calm? Horrible for Toledo.

My dad is going up there today and I am going meet him next Thursday. Hopefully things will settle down.

We left 4:00 am Tuesday morn, fished main lake buck brush & grass out of Patroon. Baby brush hogs, spinner baits, rogues, chug bugs, not a bite. Finally caught 1st fish at 1:00 pm, had 5 by 2:00 pm, then not another bite.
Wednesday morning did not have a bite by 11:00, we counted 15 boats in our immediate area, tried to move around but there was nowhere to go without boats, everyone fishing used water. New boats were steadily pulling in all day, we packed up and left, was supposed to stay till Friday.
Water was pretty good the farther south you go, and out towards main lake, muddy in coves.

Yep.

Clear and calm?
Blue bird clear sky with 5 to 15 mph wind. It could get gusty if you were exposed on a main lake point, but most of the pockets only had a light ripple.

I'm not going back anytime soon. Fishing it more often was my New Years resolution, and now I remember why I fish Caddo and the Red River more often.
I may go catch 40 12 inch bass out of my neighbors farm pond just for therapy.

That is exactly when we got our only 2 bites. That makes me feel better.

I tried everything, only bait I could get a bite on was a Carolina rigged baby brush hog, I shortened the leader to about 10"
Water was falling, could have been part of the problem, also blue bird days suck, and pollen everywhere. Biggest problem was probably pressure, a lake that big and you can't get away from boats, feel sorry for the tournament guys this weekend.

Falling water is always a big killer to me.

Yup. BTW, Indian Creek looked like a Saturday yesterday. How are all these people getting off of work?
