“15. Extended warranties are a waste of money.”

Tell me more about this.
I bought a 2016 car with a CVT (continuously variable transmission) and didn’t buy the extended power train warranty.

NOw the cvt is acting up 14,000 miles after expiry.

Wish I had gotten the warranty because I am considering trading it or paying 4 grand to fix it.

Fix it or trade shitty car in?
If trade it, get warranty next time? Won’t get Nissan anymore.

Yes I’m selfish and trashy. I posted this on the will cover thread but not sure how often this is checked.

Just because it happened once doesn't mean the statistical analysis is wrong. You were just unlucky with this car. Buying extended warranties on every car going forward will further exacerbate the problem.

Buying a CVT is your problem, not the lack of extended warranty.

This is generally true. Any transmission can be an issue, but the CVT has so far proven to be an inferior transmission.

The extended warranty is not always a bad call. It depends on the person/vehicle.

I've always bought it on bikes and never bought it on vehicles.

I've never regretted either of those choices.

Then again, I only buy bulletproof vehicles.

I bought a 2019 Nissan Titan SV 4x4 and love it. Luckily they come with a 5-yr 100k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty so any issues should be covered under that.

Check with Nissan’s Goodwill program. I had the exact same thing happen (cvt went out shortly after warranty expired), and they offered to cover 50% of the cost to repair. They were a breeze to work with. Very helpful

How much was the extended warranty? It’s not like that didn’t cost anything. Just because you bought an extended warranty, also doesn’t mean everything is covered. Plenty of guys have had items go wrong not under warranty.

An extended warranty is just financing repairs. You got unlucky. Over your lifetime theyll never pay off. Service is a major moneymaker and I'd extended warranties were not profitable, they wouldnt be offered.

Some dealers also offer a lifetime powertrain warranty.

A 2016 with the cvt already has an extended warranty (2 years/24000 miles).

This is a result of a class action. LINK

If the model is in the first two years of a major overhaul or power train or technology implementation...the extended warranty is a good idea in my opinion. You can also work the cost of the warranty in to negotiations...but I’ve never had much success negotiating the cost of repairs. I would not recommend purchasing an aftermarket extended warranty..only at time of purchase of the vehicle if at all.

Nissan extended the warranty on the cvts for several model years. Check with them.
My wife’s murano, 2010, fell in a year that wasn’t extended. 110,000 miles. However even though the vehicle had never been serviced by a Nissan dealer, Nissan covered all but 1200 of a new tyranny. I couldn’t write the check fast enough .
But, the dealership you take it to matters greatly. Atlanta Nissan service writer had it at 5800.00 didn’t bother to mention any good will that Nissan might extend. Called Nalley and service writer Gill handled everything. Bought a lot of loyalty.
