It's loaded to higher pressures.
At the muzzle the 5.56mm round has a 30 fps lead on the .223 which for all intents and purposes is meaningless. At 50 yards the difference in trajectory shooting with a 100 yard zero is .3 of an inch.

This plus the fact that it's military spec ammo. You could also be looking at green tip 5.56.
If you look at quality hunting .223 ammunition you will see it's much more expensive. But if you're just comparing FMJ ammo, the 5.56 will generally be more expensive.

You drinking, baw? FMJ is probably so, because a lot of 5.56mm is mil spec, brass cases, etc.
But, HP ammo? There's a lot of dollar and a quarter/dollar and a half bullets stamped ".223 Remington" - just sayin'.

Yes, I was just referring to plinkers.

Wolf brass case is .30 per round which is not that far off from brass cased 5.56. If you're comparing steel case .223 to brass case 5.56 you're not comparing apple to apples.

You can find it for around .28 or .29 regularly.

Sooo...30 cents per round and then shipping

Because TigerTatorTots bought it all up during the height of the ammo crisis 5 years ago and drove up the price due to low supply now.

Oh, I meant shipped. But yeah, close enough.
