It is a very primal activity that is hard wired to our brain. You can say you do it for many things but it all comes down to why you are there in the first place. The kill. The adrenaline gets pumping you get a great sense of accomplishment when you retrieve your kill and you can take pride in knowing you brought food home. It is a very satisfying experience all the way around IMO. Personally I enjoy the kill but the meat is a nice bonus.

When Im hunting...Every thing else goes away and I can sit and enjoy the peace and reflect on life....

Other than eating, sleeping, communicating, and getting a hard on- it's man's most primitive instinct. For me, it's about the conservation of not only nature, but the memories and tradition that come with it... Especially in today's crazy arse world.

I mostly duck hunt. For me I enjoy calling the birds and seeing them react. I love watching the sun come up over the trees.

I like to eat the birds that I kill.

I like spending time with friends in the blind.

But for me mostly, I really don't think that there are many things in this world as pretty as a group of ducks working into a set of decoys.

Then where's the big blackberry picking season

I spend lots of time collecting wild black berries, dew berries, and even some blue berries. We also collect black walnuts and pecans, and Muscidine grapes.

Not to mention the garden that we grow.

So yes I am a hunter and a gatherer by nature and by function.

FWIW around here the season is Late April to mid July depending on rainfall and you have to get there before the birds.
