There's just something about it that cannot be explained.
The stuff you experience hunting can not be duplicated and no matter how good of a story teller you are and how bigger you make the deer/fish when telling about it, you have no idea how great that experience was
The reason I hunt is because its a way of life for us. I started going deer hunting with my dad when I was 3 years old, shot my first deer at 7 and first duck at 8. I still remember those days
I hunt and life would suck if I didnt![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconusaflagsmiley.gif)

I just love being in the woods. I only shoot big deer so I might go 2 or 3 years without killing anything but still love going. It is something hard to explain and either you love it or you don't.
Also, Hanging at the deer camp has to be one of the best things about hunting. Cooking, watching football, drinking beer, sitting around fire. You can't beat it...

I hunt because my grandfather hunted. My father hunts and all his brothers hunt. My brother hunts as well as every friend I have ever had. I hunt because when the weather turns cold it's all my body and mind knows to do. I know where food comes from and know that animals die to give me life. Not just physiological life, but mental well being. It's who I am, but more important it's what I am. I'm at the camp with people I have known my whole life, and those I have just met. They understand me like I understand them. We all hunt because it makes us feel normal.
On the banks of some muddy river or the a sandy ridge under scrub blackjacks, we talk about our fathers and our grandfathers as well as friends that are gone that can no longer enjoy our camp fires with us.

I could write for hours about how some of the best memories I have with my Dad and Brother have evolved out of crisp fall Saturdays at the deer lease. And sitting in the woods watching the animals (even those you aren't hunting), is therapeutic. Which is why I've told my brother for years:
Hunting and fishing isn't just about killing and catching.

Hunting presents the best opportunity to spend time with my brothers and dad.

Exactly! Contrary to what Peta and other tree huggers believe, us that hunt and fish care more about and do more for the animals than they ever will

I deer hunt for meat for the most part, I enjoy the time in the woods, but I'm not a fanatic for deer like some. Modern deer hunting is pretty boring for the most part, especially how the majority of people hunt. Sitting in a giant box, staring at a food plot or feeder for 4 hours? No thanks.
However, I am a turkey hunting fanatic. There is nothing better than listening to a gobbler sound off on a cool, crisp, spring morning. Turkey hunting is just more intimate. I love it with all my heart.

I hunt to find peace, to center my thoughts, and to focus on one singular goal. I hunt because I am a better person when I do. I hunt to fill my freezer and the bellies of my family and friends. I hunt because it sets a good example for my boys, one that doesn’t involve video games or TV. I hunt because I am reminded how spectacular this world is, how little we know about it, and just how insignificant I may be. Those realizations make every stress seem more tolerable and every struggle more natural. I find as much connection to a higher power when I am in the woods as I do in church. I hunt for the challenge of pitting myself against millions of years of evolution. I hunt for the bond with friends and family based on intense once in a life time moments that are shared only with those persons. I hunt because I can and because I must.
