It's the show just because the sheriff's department is in major debt from all the toys they bought and Vernon is liable for it? I mean, it's a good idea to make money I guess

Enjoy it, because from what I read the new sheriff is not going for it. Also alot of pissed public officals because the sheriff didnt sign contracts or something like that

I heard a lot of the locals are unhappy about the show. It'll probably be funny but overly staged. I just hope it isn't as bad as those terrible shows on Tru TV.

Yeah. That's another thing that Vern did that pissed a lot of people off. A few years ago, the Sheriff's department did a drug bust and seized the Maserati in it. Said it was worth around $80,000 when they seized it. Instead of doing the sensible thing and selling it asap as not to lose too much depreciation on the car...they kept it for a few years and drove it around everywhere (and in parades) and sold it not long ago on ebay. Winning bid? $30,000...lost approximately $50,000 on the deal. Vern is a good guy and has a great family, but he didn't do too hot of a job as the new Sheriff in town...which is why Larpenter is back in his old position.

Sorry to bump this...just wanted to explain the backstory to the Maserati.

Oh, and FWIW, they wrecked a cop car re-enacting a chase scene for this show...guess who footed the bill for those repairs? Another reason this show won't be on for long.
