Who here hikes or camps alone?

I just started hiking alone once a week after work. Instead of hitting the gym for 1-2 hrs after work some days I go for a hike. Nothing big just 3-7 miles on trails at state parks. I tell my wife where I am going and what time I will be back. I really enjoy the solitude. I should have been doing this years ago. It is great.
I have never camped alone and probably won’t at this stage in my life. I have seen solo tent campers out before and I probably would have done this in my younger years when I was single.

I go all the time with my dog, so not sure if you would consider that "alone" but yeah, it's the way to do it. I pack a ruck with everything I need and just disappear for a bit. It's good for the soul.

I section hike the AT hiking and camping alone annually... I really enjoy the solitude as well

I've done some solo backpacking in my time when I was much, much younger. It's a great way to recenter yourself to what's important in the world. Lots of time to think about things.

I used to camp alone when I was working in Nevada. 10 days on 4 days off so if I felt like staying close and saving money I would just go set up on some blm land. I had my phone and 7 gallons of water and slept with my gun next to me.
I have done national parks alone plenty but that doesn't feel the same since you are in occupied campgrounds.

I did a small stretch of the Appalachian trail back in my early 20s when I was still entering the spirit world a lot. For the most part I was camping around other folks who were also doing the trail. It was about 1.5 weeks worth. I tried to carry a bunch of MREs leftover from Hurricane Rita to avoid buying food since I was broke and just about starved. Good times.
I've done some solo hiking and hunting other than that on weekends and have always enjoyed it. It's a good way to reset. With everything in my life seeming to move way too fast it is comforting to go to a place that change over the past 15 years is nearly imperceptible.

I've camped quite a bit alone before. To be honest I'm not crazy about it. Just gets boring real fast. If I slip and bust my arse in the mud there is no one there to laugh with me. I just have a wet muddy butt and no comedic relief.
I like going to walks alone though, but thats a few hours at a time at the most.

Plus, when you're alone, every bump in the night is a bit more intense. Armadillos sound like bears.

Hell yeah they do. It's also amazing how loud a coon can be when he is rooting around in your ice chest.

Years ago I was invited to go Dove hunting in West Texas. I decided last second to go but was told there is no room in the Cabin to sleep b/c I waited to long to decide. No problem, I’ll just sleep in my tent alone. I put up my tent about 200 yards from the cabin in a nice secluded spot. Worst night ever in a tent. I forgot my sleeping pad and I did not tie the rain fly tight enough and it was whipping in the wind loudly that night waking me up. We were told not to bring a handgun to the lease or the old man who owns it will throw you off without a refund. So I left my pistol at home and was sleeping next to my shotgun in my tent. I woke up in the middle of the night to a loud growling just outside of my tent. Probably a coon or coyote. But I felt like an old man holding my double barrel shot gun hollaring...”get out of here!!!”

There are coons at one of the Tensas campgrounds that can open a yeti. They stand up and growl at you when you try to shoo them off. I'm scared shitless of them.
