We each have 1 mountain house per day (they're pretty damn good...bring a little Tony's with you)

Daily food
1 mountain house (dinner)
2 pro bars (1-breakfast and 1-lunch)
1 cup gummy bears (snacking)
4 packets instant coffee
2 packets black tea
4 pro bar energy chews (snacking)

I am actually second guessing my arrow set up right now. I love speed/accuracy, but I want a pass through

Easton Flatline 340 - rage hypodermic 100 gr. (it's my whitetail setup) - I'm right at 348 grains total right now. My bow (z7xtreme) loves these arrows. The spine chart has these perfectly balanced for my bow. (I group 1/2 dollars out to 30, and fists out to 50)

But I think I need more weight, and I want to also carry 2 arrows setup with G5 stikers if I can get them to group like my rages do (I think I can).

If I have a 50 yd shot I'll pull the rage, 20-40 the striker

I'm going to Bowie tomorrow to talk with them.

I'm shooting a ZXT, they're practically the same bow and I was getting decent speed and always pass throughs with a 400gr setup on whitetails.

These new ones are packing a punch and I honestly didn't have to move my pins that much. My gaps didn't really change with this heavier setup. I highly recommend getting into the mid 400s at least

I always shot Rage as well, the Xtreme, but everything seems to point to using fixed on these big creatures

Nice, I'm going to start with your arrow setup then at Bowie tomorrow and see how my bow likes them. Should be similar.

I have a TR React One Pro, so I can move all my distances with a simple turn. No problem.

Same thing I'm seeing. I am just damned shell shocked from fixed blades from shooting muzzy's and getting NO blood, whereas my Rages look like a murder scene on a whitetail.

I’ll be just north of steamboat in the routt national forest these exact dates. Everything I’ve read suggest this should be prime for boggling activity. I know nothing about elk except from watching YouTube videos.

We have one guy in our camp of 4 that has ever elk hunted before. I’m in it for the experience but would love to get some meat.

I think one of the things I’m looking forward to the most is the weather. It will still be hot here and should be beautiful out there.

I’ve got basically everything ready to go except going to buy a couple light weight camo pants for hotter days.

Heading to Southern Colorado in 2 weeks with 6 buddies.
Complete DIY backpacking and all.
Buddy killed an elk last year. No one else has ever elk hunted, and myself and another have never bow hunted period.

I'm just going to get away from everything for a week, help with hopefully cleaning and packing out some meat, enjoy the outdoors, and since i have a mule deer tag, allow someone to shoot one of those.
I plan on doing some fishing as well as taking mid day naps near my fishing streams in a hammock. If i could pack some beer in, i'd be in heaven.
I'd also like to try to make a chair using just my knife and nature. I been watching a lot of Alone.

Me and another guy will be in southern Colorado in 2.5 weeks, but for mule deer. Elk is next yr. We are in a 4 state pp rotation with mule deer and elk. And apply to states that don't use a pp system as well.

I've done plenty of hunting before, but never for elk. Does anyone have any recommendations for resources on planning an Elk Hunt in Colorado?

Everything from gear recommendation lists, unit breakdowns, tag system/acquisition, DIY access to these areas, etc. Basically an A-Z on hunting elk in Colorado for a complete novice?

what mylsuhat said

My go to spots/subscriptions for planning this trip have been:

GoHunt
Elk101
OnxMaps
Born and Raised Outdoors YouTube channel
Randy Newberg Youtube Channel

GoHunt has awesome articles from their prostaff guys from how they butcher in the field, to the full gear list for their packs, to hunting strategies.

Newberg and Corey Jacobsen have awesome YouTube videos on internet scouting where they breakdown a random unit in google earth

I am thinking about buying a solar charging battery pack to recharge my phone and all at night. You have anything like that?

I just plan on using my phone for OnX

I have a little battery bank, like this. Works really well. a tad heavy, but it's not too bad

Caution on iphone/onx in the widlerness. Load up your offline maps before you get out of range. Also put it in airplane mode as it will focus all location energy to onx only. The tracking feature on mine was not operating very well at all in July.

I bought a SpotX PLB. For $200 knowing I can have SAR en route via a button push is nice. Plus we are in heavy grizzly bear country.

I used mine turkey hunting and the tracking was nice. I always have it on airplane mode for that.

I have a battery pack as well. Might get a second one to ensure I have enough juice
