I drive from Natchez to Corpus all the time. The traffic all depends on how you time hitting the metro areas.
I made the drive from Hattiesburg to Port Aransas one time. I got to the east side of Houston at 4:00 p.m. and thought I was doing good. Then I got pulled over for speeding. The officer asked me why I was in such a hurry. I just looked at him crazy and explained where I had driven from and where I was going. He laughed and said he understood and sent me on my way without a ticket, but with a "good luck!"
It took 2 hours to get through Houston that evening.

20 to Marshall Tx, then 79 all the way to 130 toll east of Austin to I-10 east of SA, then 10/90 west to Uvalde would be the fastest route. You'd be avoiding Houston and I35
that's a good route, a lot of 79 is 4-lane
frick I-35 in Austin.

Update, Avoid 281 and anything else west of I35 if you were thinking of a scenic route, major flooding taking place on north end of the Hill Country. Hop on the toll way east of Austin and head south on the only 85 mph legal highway in the US.

I really appreciate all of the updates and suggestions. It is pretty cool how much good information one can get on this board. Thanks again. Hopefully I can report back with a good buck riding home with me.

I-20 west all the way to US 67 south of Dallas. US 67 south to TX 220 at Chalk Mountain. TX 220 west to TX 281 at Hico. TX 281 south to Loop 1604 in San Antonio. 1604 west to US 90 west. US 90 west to Uvalde.
This right here. What he and Geaux Frogs said are the way to go. 281 is a great drive

I would go to Alexandria to Leesville to jasper then 190 to Livingston to 59 then take loop around Houston to I10 to SA to 90 to Uvalde.
I would avoid BR and LC to Houston for sure. You will pass 2 bucees on my route.
This is a good route if you are south of Jackson, did it two weeks ago, Livingston around Houston is getting pretty crowded though. I come from Natchez and go north to Natchitoches and over, it's an hour faster to Burnet/North Austin.

its 4.5 hours from McAllen to Uvalde. If you had said fly to San Antonio, then I would agree.
