I asked about trucks one time before but now I am really shopping.I got rid of my F250 6.0 this morning.I am now in the market for a new 3/4 ton crew cab 4x4 truck.I would prefer not to go the diesel route again. Its an 8k option and it would take several years to "breakeven" with the increase in mileage over a gas burner. Also,if that damn diesel ever breaks outta warranty I have to sell a kidney to fix it.Hammertime can vouch for this.I pull a 28ft TT a couple times a year and my tractor about 8-10 times a year.My options are F250 with the 6.2,Chevy/GMC with the 6.0, and Ram 2500 with the 5.7 Hemi or new 6.4 Hemi. What say the OB?Any real world exp with these vehicles?

I have a 2012 6.0L chevy. Pulls 12K well. I had a 2002 cummins and the Chevy 6.0 is close in power. Not equal but not that bad.

What kind of mileage are you seeing? 3.73 rear or 4.10? My TT weighs about 8500 and tractor, trailer and implement is about 11200

I would def. go with 4:10 pulling over 11k.

Dont the new ones have the 6.2.
Either one is a great engine.

I have a F150 with the 6.2 and it does just fine. Havent hooked anything over 10k up to it but it did just fine with the medium loads.

Right before I left LA DWL&F, they were phasing out the Ram 2500 5.7 in favor of the F250 6.2. The agents that were getting the new trucks absolutely loved them and did nothing but bitch about the old ones.

I would never consider the 5.7 2500. Maybe the 6.4 but only after the 6.2, then the 6.0.

I think the 6.2 is an alumnimum block in the 1500.I heard they were going to be in the new redesigned HD's next year.

Huh? I thought they were the same exact engines just tuned differently. You are saying that they make two different blocks, completely the same, just different metals?

I've got a 2012 GMC 6.0 4x4 crew cab with 65k miles.....probably do a little more towing than you but relatively close.....always had F-250 diesels before and have been really happy with the gas burner......not as much power but close enough since I'm not towing all day everyday......3.73 rear end and I'm getting close to 14mpg and drop down to about 9mpg when towing........in my opinion the only way it makes sense to have a diesel these days is if you tow everyday or will keep the truck forever or have a severe case of little man syndrome

The Chevy 6.2 is an aluminum block and not available in the hd yet. The ford is cast iron and on my short list

My feeling as well. New gas engines last a long time. Got 190K on our suburban and it runs great. Hoping to get 5 more years out of it.

Drive them until the stop. My old 250 had 292k miles on it when i got rid of it. It was counter productive to drop the kind of money it needed to keep it going so I got a new one three years ago. I hope I get 300k out of this one.

I agree. This will likely be u truck until my 9 yr old is of age. My f250 was starting to show its age and was starting to nickel and dime me to death. I was worried about something big breaking or blowing head gaskets so I went ahead and got rid of it. Just so much to keep up with on a diesel these days.

This is where I always chime in and tell people to get a Tundra. 4.30 rear end, 381 hp and 401 ft lbs of torque. Spend a few extra bucks and upgrade your suspension and get a trailer brake and you're ready to go

I hear ya, I'll have nothing but fords. They been great to me. I drove that 250 from junior year of high school till 3 years ago.

My sophomore year of high school I drove a 77 bronco on 38" boggers.

All I've ever driven is fords. That's really my only brand loyalty.

I was loyal to Chevy till my wife's POS 2007 suburban. I have softened my hatred towards them and will explore all options ... Even a dodge...

The only one I would consider is a short bed dually Laramie longhorn with that cherry black color over tan.
