Where do you live, and what will you be using it for?

Live in Maryland unfortunately. Weird thing is the AR-10 platform is not banned.

Will be using this for target shooting and hog hunting 2-3 times per year. I already have a Colt AR-15, Arsenal AK-47 and Ruger 10/22 for semi-autos, and I dont own a bolt gun yet btw.

I will probably buy something this weekend. I appreciate all of the help.

Hog shooting and target then the 308 is the right choice. It is a good use of that round and I would diff go with the AR platform. Not sure how you are planning on hunting the hogs but if you bust into a mess of them you need something fast chambering. If you get quick enough with it and are in a big enough field with a good bit of hogs it is not unrealistic to drop three before they skinout.

How important is it that I get a pmag based .308 AR? The AR-10T is a really nice gun but only accepts armalite mags.

Theres a long list of rifle manuf. I'd choose before and over Remington's. With the exception of their higher end tact rifles Remingtons are one step above Mossberg and way behind Savage these days IMO. Unfortuantely Remington ain't making the same rifles they made for our dad's and paw paw's

Which Savage rifles would you recommend?

Wrong.

The Remington 700 is still a great buy. Are they as good as they once were, no, but few things are. There's a reason it's been a best seller for so long...and I'm a Winchester guy, but to say a 700 is junk, that's preposterous.

Personally if I were thinking bolt gun for target and hunting you're gonna be hard pressed to beat a Tikka T3 for the money.I like them so well I have 3 different calibers in the same rifle and I'm stashing away for a fourth one. Before I did the AR .308 I'd go with a Tikka SS with some damn nice glass on it. You'll be out the same money, but since you already have other AR plaform guns, you need a good bolt gun. Every man needs a good hunting rifle

Never said they were junk. But you just agreeing with the last thing I said shows that you know they aren't like Remington's use to be. Which is why I stand beside the fact that they are better than Mossberg but not as good as Savage with the exception of the Axis model and to be honest I'd have a hard time going with a base 700 over it as well

Not on your list, may want to look at a savage hog hunter...I bought one this year great hunting and target gun, I had a $500 budget for a .308 so AR10s werent on my radar, and with lots of research this was the hands down winner at the price point I was looking.

If you really want to stick with the .308, FN Scar is the way to go, not to mention its B.A. looking. It's worth the money, go all out and put a silencer on it as well.

I agree the FN Scar is probably the most bad arse semi-auto .308 in the market. I believe it comes with a folding stock though which is banned in MD... Otherwise, Id buy it in a heartbeat.

Dude move down here! We'd love to have you. You would have this crazy thing called freedom, something Maryland knows nothing about.

Bah, the SCAR's are some ugly guns. I'll take my Armalite AR-10 A4, although the M&P 10 or even DPMS look good too.
