the more I think about it, I think a 60 is too small. Its for an old 170 Boston Whaler Montauk. I've seen anywhere from 60 to 115 on those things.

It had an old 90 Johnson on it that was locked up. We bought it for the hull anyway and want to refurb it.

Toledo is a stretch. But i did do it once for a weekend. Weather was perfect and we stayed in the coves. The last day there was a little sketchy when the wind picked up...

But thank you. Im really gonna like it with the new motor.

Why the s/s power tech and not the black Yamaha s/s prop?

The black Yamaha prop was what was recommended when I purchased.

They gave me the aluminum prop, and offered either the power tech SS or yamaha prop. The yamaha would have cost extra. They did say the yamaha would turn faster though. I chose the PT.

Either way great choice on motor and purchase location

The tohatsu has been a great motor thus far. Do recommend a Jack plate with breakaway for your setup. Will save the lower end when impact occurs

I would love a jack plate, and may get one in the future.

They did remove the restrictor plate without me even asking, so im running 48hp on a 1648 flat bottom

It retailed for 5600.

Im 20 mins away from being able to do one minute full throttle for every ten minutes of 3/4 throttle. Ill post my top speed in a bit.

And for those of you wondering, yes ive been riding around in my boat for 2 hours at half throttle drinking beers bc wtf else am i gonna do on good friday?

So i hit 40mph easily, which was too fast. Spilled my beer. This motor on this hull is an animal...

I haven't heard anything negative about the 40/50 tohatsu 4 strokes. that says a lot.

I am seriously considering the new 60 version of that motor on my 20' crawfish skiff. don't need speed, just want the extra hp for loads.

40mph in that boat of yours is cooking!!! enjoy!!

how long is the warrantee on your 40?

tbh, I have a 60 merc command thrust on a another boat in my yard and it's been a great motor. only hiccup it has is the thermostat gets clogged up a lot. that's easy to fix in the field, just annoying. in clear water it's not an issue. I would screen the lower unit up, but that always makes me paranoid about burning up the motor when running wfo on long runs. my old 90 merc would pump mud all day and never looked back. lol

the thought of the lighter motor [tohatsu] is appealing.

I think a light for frog hunting would be great.
Two power poles would be nice.

I use my little boat like his versus my big glass boat when in Toledo Bend. I just drive to the area I want to fish, launch, and fish more than run.

Running the big boat I so tempted to run versus staying in an area. I end up burning more gas and catching less fish.

Everyone relax. I had 4 beers over the 3hr period i was breaking it in. Regardless, the motor is more than enough for me. I doubt i ever run full throttle but its nice to know if i need to i can. The 25hp was just a little too undersized for me. Hell, i prolly could have made do with a 30hp.

Home now, nothing broke. No one hurt. I dont usually drink in my boat, but knowing i wasnt going to be fishing or running wide open, i decided to splurge a little.
