When is it too late to cut back a Crape Myrtle?

I want to help one of my elderly neighbors get their yard in good shape this spring. I always cut mine back around Valentine's Day, but this one hasn't been cut back. I notice tiny little leaves coming up on the branches. Is it too late for this spring? Google says it's not too late if the growth just started, but I'd like some more opinions.
TIA
TIA

Most professionals say not to cut them, and if you do just light pruning for the limbs that turn in, not to crew cut them

To answer your question, no it is not too late to cut them back. I cut mine about 2 days ago. Mine are close to my sidewalk and if I didn’t cut them back you would have to walk around them. I think they recover nicely after being trimmed.

I have a few that are about 20 years old. Them dam things are well above 20' tall. I'm fixing the hit them SOB's with my backhoe. Hell, the main trunks I could saw them on my sawmill.
The bad thing about them, is that once you pop a root, you have 5 new trees popping up. You just can't kill them SOB's.

Hell, I sprayed some with crossbow. Just knew that would do them in. 6 weeks later, bitches came back alive.

Nice house, like the flag , but think it should be turned around to where the union is at the flags right and observers left

If you only knew how many times I have spun that pole around away from the shubs and the wind spins it right back around.

Yes after seeing that picture I feel like we talked about your reel mower on here before. I spent many many day cutting on one when I was in high school and collage at our local golf course. 18 holes is a never ending job.

And just because I like taking pictures here is a bluebird in one of my butchered up Crape Myrtles.
