Another tip for surf fishing.
Walk.
Dont just wade out there and sit in one spot. You should be constantly moving until you find the fish. I usually walk parallel with the bank on the first or second sand bar. When you walk you should be varying your casts from straight ahead(direction you're walking), out to the gulf, or back towards the shore where the first drop off is.
The beaches form little pockets and holes that change from day to day and week to week and sometimes it may only be a small little pocket that will hold fish.

Frick stringers. +1 on the float basket. They make one that has 2 rings zip tied one ontop of the other. It can actually float a grown man. It's a good idea for safety reasons if you or someone else out there gets caught in a bad situation.

If something grabs my stringer and starts pulling me around. I'm sure the water will turn browner than it already is.

yea I about shite myself, I was on the beach side of camanada pass jetties in about chest deep water. I had a stringer full of fish and Columbia cargo short pucket full of live shrimp

So what did the fish on the stringer look like if it was still attached?
Posted on 4/22/12 at 6:47 pm to Nodust
I had all the fish except one of them was tore in half, wasnt a clean cut. Probably a small bull shark

Ok. So I'll get a basket or a quick release.

So the second sandbar is where it's at?

Actually when I went all the fish we caught were before it. The dolphins were swimming between them too, so I'm guessing that means that's where the fish were.

I'll usually walk through the first drop off(trough) and up onto the first sandbar. The one after that is usually too far out. That way I can cast into the first drop off to my left and the second one to my right as I'm walking.
