I have never done this in Grand Isle and would love to give it a try.

I'm curious too, I want to try to make some trips this year

North wind is good for the Island? where do you park? can I use plastic/topwaters/mirrodines, or do i need live bait?

I want to try that also. Only time I went was with downshifts uncle and cousin. Didn't catch crap but it was in April I think. We were to drunk to fish.

I went once last summer. We ended up with 2 bigass trout and I snagged a spanish. Caught a bunch of small white trout, a couple rat reds, hardheads and quite a few pretty small gafftops and pompano. Only think I caught anything on was live shrimp, nothing hit artificials. I think it was late june or early july. We did catch 4 dozen crabs, though.

I remember reading live shrimp was the way to go.
How do you rig it.
Cork?
What hook size?
Tight line it?

IIRC we used those snap-on corks with the rattles in it. I think I tried a couple different popping corks too. Just kept varying depths. 3/0 kahle hook I think is what I used. Either 2/0 or 3/0. I tightlined for a little while but all I'd catch doing that is hardheads.
ETA I actually remember my brother had just caught a bigass trout and missed another one back to back and I hooked a hardhead and couldn't get it off the damn line, so I got frustrated and kicked it. That spine went into my croc and broke off, sitting right between my toes. I just said thank you sweet baby Jesus, and I'm definitely not kicking one of these frickers again. It did get him off the hook though

North wind will lay the waves down nice and you get good clear water.
I have fished Elmer's
And in front of the state park
And also caught trout behind the state park in a little lagoon

Also I didn't try it while I was down there, but last summer early July I was told they would catch some trout midday in that cut that passes under the road right by where you turn off LA1 to go to Elmer's Island.

Thanks. I suck at fishing. But going to try this

It's frustrating sometimes because the best conditions give you no fish sometimes And the worst are the best

Sounds like fishing to me

I have always done well in the surf with shallow diving crank baits and suspending baits.
My favorite summer time bait for the beaches is the mirrolure mirrodine in pink and chartreuse. Also good are the broken back swimming crank baits.
I don't pretend to be an expert but I have on multiple occasions stood in the surf and hammered the trout with the aforementioned baits while watching guys stand next to me are not getting a single bite throwing basic spark beetles and such.

The fact that I only go two or three times a year doesn't help. The odds of getting perfect conditions are not good.

Hard to do...I am impressed.

We were in college. Fishing wasn't the important part of the trip.
