When do y’all think is the best time to catch full crabs? I’ve heard full moon and I’ve heard new moon. And I’ve heard it’s hit or miss. What have y’all found?

I've heard full moon, but have absolutely nothing to base that on other than hear say

Full moon = more light = they can see to feed all night.
That's the rationale. I've had more success with more moonlight.

when they have two white spots on their backs. That's all I know.

In warmer months they are growing constantly so they are molting more often There seems to be some correlation with some crabs molting around the full moon but it’s not all crabs. So you will have some that are full and some not
The best time for me has been on the winter or early spring when you get a few warm days the crabs come out of the mud and start moving around they haven’t molted in a while and they are all mossy and muddy. Those are always full
The others are the ones (almost all females) on the beaches late summer. Mainly females that have spawned their one time and are going to pasture per se

Most places I crab they aren’t gonna see anything even in broad daylight

Female crabs don't die when they lay their eggs, they can spawn multiple times. They only mate once, but can produce many spawns from that encounter. Science is weird.

before a full moon they fatten up to change shells if full and if not they wont change shells but the moonlight lets them eat at night and not just during the day so that is the time they should be the fattest
beyond that, it all depends on the amount of food in the area

My daughter and i went out crabbing yesterday and we caught 82 and every last one of those crabs were full of meat. Based on that i would say full moon is when they are the fullest. About half of out catch was easily #1 male crabs. Sure was a great day with my daughter.

Full moon always has a higher percentage of busters so it always appears they are fullest prior to shedding. Keep in mind though that the same crab will appear to be “poor” two weeks after shedding due to not growing into his new suit as my pawpaw used to say.
All things being equal he don’t lose meat mass after shedding.
