I still have not figured out what I like about it. It is lots of work, expensive, you get cold and wet and sometimes miserable with nothing to show for it. But if I am not outdoors, then all I am thinking about is being outdoors. I guess it is just some kind of primal thing.

I've probably sat here for 10 minutes trying to decide what I like the most.

I decided that it's the feeling I get when I take the time to look around, whether in the stand or on the mountain, and appreciate the calm and beauty of everything. Each time, I realize that this is how it's supposed to be.

I can't wait until the day I can retire and enjoy every day like I do when I have outdoors days.

Being able to pass on the tradition of hunting to my kids. My dad always fished and didn't hunt much. My stepdad took me hunting but didn't teach me anything about it. I want to pass down all I know about the outdoors to my kids. I want them to get the same feeling I get when deer season rolls around.

Like so many others, I grew up every weekend at the camp with my Dad or on the water with him. Between that and sports I didnt have the time or the desire to get into the things that alot of teenagers went down the wrong path with. He was absolutely my best friend. He passed away two months before he was supposed to stand as my best man in my wedding. Now I am just getting my son started and hope that it means as much to him as it did to me.

Sorry to hear that.
I'm sure it will be just as special!

Too many things to name but the friendships and relationships with family members are certainly high on the list.

I just love to be outside. It really doesnt matter if its in a treestand, around a campfire or on the water, I'd rather be outside than sitting in front of a tv (unless the game is on).

That being said, the memories that come from those tiems are what makes it truelly special. The friends and family that I share those experiences with I think have a tighter bond than others that dont.

Why I Love Being an Outdoorsman, by deaconjones35

There are many reasons, but I will just list a few.

1) I grew up outdoors. It was just a way of life with my Dad and brothers. He taught me everything I know about guns and hunting. Also, how to be safe and respect what God has given us. To be able to continue hunting with my Dad and brothers is very special.

2) I love sitting in a stand or in my yak and being able to leave the stress of life behind. I use this time to reflect on how thankful I am for all that I have and to enjoy God's creation. I find myself audibly thanking Him for giving us life and the beauty of nature. Many times I just take it for granted.

3) The challenge of the catch / kill. I've learned this year that fishing from a yak can be very challenging, but it's very rewarding.

4) Fried backstrap. No explination needed.

That's my sappy post for the year.
