I've read about people having a lot of issues with Kimbers lately. At best they're sort of hit or miss, but I could be wrong.

I still recommend the Springfield TRP.

Been looking at these. I want a sure enough but refuse to pay 3K+ for a 9 shot pistol. Thought about the double stack 1911 9mm by Wilson Combat.

I don't want to drop 3K+ on a pistol because I like to use them. That would be a safe queen for me.

I have one of these too. I honestly like the Kimber better.

It's been with their more basic models like the pro carry II and the custom II.

My other 1911 is a TRP and it's been a terrific gun. Don't have any experience with Kimbers.

But from everything I read TRP seems to be the popular choice when matched up against the Kimbers. A lot of people consider it to be the best production 1911 on the market and certainly one of the best values.

See if any local ranges rent out either of them and do some research; plenty of forums with plenty of threads on this very topic.

Is it ok to have a rail on a 1911

I think so:

But the standard TRP doesn't come with a rail, the railed version is the TRP Operator.
