I use some combos for both. Often bc I’m fishing Delacroix or Bayou B where you catch bass, reds and trout.
Rods-Cajun Customs, Castaway, Shimano, Duce,
Reels-Mainly Shimano-Chronarch G’s for salt are my go to. Metanium, Bantam, Stradics, Saros, and a couple of Lew’s tourney Lites and one Daiwa SV103.
If I’m fishing straight saltwater like Grand Isle for instance, I’m bringing my cheaper set ups.

Ironic you bring this up. Last weekend I was out at the beach in GI. I realized all my rods/reels have seen better days. We have a camp that I fish for reds off the deck. Unfortunately, the 1st floor joist are right at 8' and I've broken off 5 or 6 rod tips in the last year. I tried rewrapping one....yeesh, it was horrible. I have a Penn Battle that needs to be dismantled and cleaned, a couple of Shimano's that are in good condition, but I need to restring. One of my rods has a broken guide half way down, etc., etc., etc.
I actually bought 2 elcheapo Chinese made rod/reel combos a couple of years ago for novices that I bring along that I seem to gravitate to. They are holding up real well.

’s time consuming but it isn’t hard. Biggest issue is that the 1st 2 or 3 will look like crap as you learn the ins and outs of wrapping
I’m too scared to get into it
I’ve got way more than a few hundred dollars in tying material and I feel like I’d be going down the same hole with that. Maybe one day.

Shimano curados, chronarchs, and stradics for my reels. I’ve gone to all custom rods that I’ve built.
