I'm going to look at a 2016 GMC canyon (2wd slt) with the diesel engine this weekend. It only has 27,000 miles. Never having owned a diesel, what should I be looking for as far as potential problems go? Beyond just typical fluid leaks, are there any particular sounds, fluid colors, etc that would be indicators of something going wrong? It's being sold by a BMW dealership, if that matters.

At 27k miles I would want to see the service history on that vin # to make sure it hasnt been a lemon.

Otherwise odds are theres nothing wrong with it

Carfax shows it originally lived in California and was traded in a little over a year after being in Texas. One owner.

That hasn't even broke in yet. Stay away from anything that has been tuned up.

Update: got the truck home from Austin to Denham Springs in just under 3/4 of a tank (just over 8 hours drive time). Averaged 29.4 mpg which included two 30-45 minute traffic delays along the way. So far, I'm loving this truck. Haven't towed anything with it yet but I doubt I'll be disappointed when I do.

Depending on where I was, the cruise was usually set around 75-80.
