My personal experience is limited but also from the Virginia mountains. That looks like one of the bigger types that does not carry lyme. He looks whole. It's the itty bitty deer ticks you have to worry about
Also, my understanding is they have to be embedded for over 24 hours to transmit the disease
And a single dose of doxycycline within 3 days is 100% effective at preventing lime

After picking up my son from summer camp, I joined the last day of my college friends’ usual river trip near Hillsville, Virginia. My friend has a cabin built in the early 1900s with electricity but no running water, so we park on the opposite side of Big Reed Island Creek and use side-by-sides to reach it. I took my minivan because I didn’t want to risk my other vehicles getting vandalized. T cannot make it up tn the top filed on the mountain and I sold my pathfinder in January.
That night, after riding until around 11 p.m., we heard a flood warning for Carroll County VA. The small creek we had to cross to get back was already up about four feet, stranding us at the cabin. We normally leave around 9 a.m., but the water stayed too high until about 2:30 p.m.
When we finally made it back toward the road, my minivan looked fine from a distance. But as we got closer, we saw that the two-foot-tall grass around it had been flattened in one direction, showing the force of the flood. The water had risen all the way to the side-view mirrors, meaning the van had been almost completely submerged.
I could not even move the van that nigh because I could not get to it. It’s on a state maintained road. Highest point not on private or accessible land.
I assume the Bog Reed Island Creek rose about 14 feet.

eta, OP both got a debilitating life-long tick disease and also lost his beloved minivan. I'm not much for people starting go-fund-me's but if there was ever a need, its the OP right now. I'd chip in $3 for sure.

Not drivable. I’m going back up today to take the roof bars off and any valuables that may be in there that did not get broken into last night.
