I can tell you that I will not own another Ranger unless something is changed. They are meant to go fast, but go to pieces or die.

I'm really interested in the Honda Pioneer. I like that the back seats fold down so you can use the bed or the seats.

I’m still using my Kubota RTV. It’s 11 years old and still going strong. It’s not a mud machine by any means but great for working in the woods and hauling deer/seed. I will buy another when the time comes.

Same for me.

I’ve seen and ridden in a fellow poster in this threads 700 and really liked it. I don’t hunt and have two small kids so I’ve been looking hard at the 700-4 and the 1000-5.

I also really like having the seats in the bed, the 2 row Polaris’ are too long for my liking.

Looking at the Honda as I plan on keeping it for a long time. It won’t be abused and really will only be to cruise around Grand Isle.

My '14 polaris ranger crew is treated like a rented mjle and does everything and more I ask it to do.

We have almost every rig made at the farm and abuse the hell out of them. I like driving the Rangers, but they are without a doubt the worst maintenance wise. Constantly having issues with belts, cv joints etc. for durability I would rank them as follows:

Yamaha
Kawasaki
Honda

Can Am

Polaris

I just sold my 570 ranger will never own another polaris. Electrical nightmare & front differential issues.

I have my eye on the Pioneer 700-4 & 1000-5 mainly because of the full size cargo bed that converts to seats so i can ride the kids around.

I just test drove one of those new Yamaha RMAX Wolverine 4. That thing was a beast.

I’m up in the air about what to get. Either RMAX or a used Pioneer 1000-5.

How's the power and the ride?

I've been harassing the local dealers about borrowing one and no one has budged. They are selling immediately.

Just looking at it, it's a better made General.

I always first think of shotguns when I see a thread title like this. Guess I'm showing my age.

RMAX.

The 1000 Pioneer’s aggressive downshift will become painstakingly annoying to the point of regret. Trust me.

You mirror what my bro in law keeps telling me and he watched me test drive the units.

I didn’t like how it downshifted on me when i was trying to hold it in second gear in low range.

My bro in law said i looked like i was learning how to drive a manual car with my head bopping back and forth.

I’d be BSing you if i told you awesome. I didn’t get on the throttle too much, but i could tell the power is there.

The RMAX is smooth as butter with engagement and seems it will flat out run. Also has good low range for working if needed.

My uncle has the P-1000. He hates it. I’ve ridden and driven it a few times, hell to the naw.

I have the Yamaha Wolverine RSpec Gen 1 - basically a RMAX with 708cc. It’s a beast. Sat in an RMAX last week at the dealer, had to leave before I decided to trade mine in

Use mine for minor recreation and mainly work in the woods, and hunting. You won’t regret it. If you’re not in a rush, wait until next year’s model comes out to give them time to fix any kinks.

If you don’t want to wait, that’s fine too. Yamaha will fix anything major warranty or not via recall.

I'm eying up a used X4 850 right now.

I've seen decent reviews for the 850's

RMax! I'm the fin manager for laf power sports and have driven them all. That RMax is a flat out beast, very fast and stable. For durability, the Jap bikes are by far the best. Can't beat the Kawis for working purposes. Kawasaki is the brand our mechanics are the least likely to work on, not so much for Polaris and Can Am.

A Mule is like buying a Toyota. It’s not going to be fancy or flashy but it will never let you down

Completely happy with my Honda Pioneer 700. I’ve always been a Polaris guy but I’ve watched that swamp I hunt in chew up Polaris (& Can Am) while the Honda guys kept on trucking.

The only piece of advice I would strongly suggest with Honda is don’t ignore the valve adjustment with the first service. My buddy never had his adjusted and after about 600 hours it ruined his engine.

The only negative thing I’ve read and seen online is the lack of space in the back seats. Appears pretty tight. * Have never seen one in person or sat in one, so take it for what it’s worth.

When I bought my older wheeler 15 years ago I asked the same thing of the mechanics in the service shop. They told me Kawasaki was the most trouble feee. I only put 2 belts on my 650 in all those years. Fantastic bike. Running a Polaris Northstar last 2 years and so far trouble free. Crossing my fingers!
