I shoot a Tikka T3 in .300 WSM. If you liked the Sako you should look at a Tikka. They are manufactured by Sako and imported through Beretta. They use the same barrel and trigger. Both gaurantee 1 MOA @ 100yds out of the box. The main differences in the two are the actions and the stocks. I think Sakos use a 3 lug bolt whereas the Tikkas use a 2 lug bolt. I've never had a problem with the action on mine, it's very smooth. I don't care what the stock looks like, I bought my gun to hunt, and I dont want to have to worry about scratching it when I carry it in the woods.

Hey bama, take your big arse pic down. Nice gun though.
I have Remington 700 .270, .243
a Winchester 7 mag.. and a semi auto 30.06.
But I shoot the. 243. Because I like how straight it shoots in the field. I like my dads 30/30 in the woods.

I have a browning medallion in 300 wsm. That is one very nice rifle. ONe of the best shooting rifles off the shelf IMHO. The 300 WSM, well I could take it or leave it. No strong feelings about it either way.
My newest is a custom Remington 700 in 270win. I'm loving it so far.

Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker .270 WSM (No BOSS) with 4.5-15x50mm Zeiss Conquest
I use it because it is fast and accurate, light as hell, and can take a beating and keep on ticking. Plus, as a bonus, it just plain looks badass.
I also have a Remington 700 in 6mm that I use on occasion that is a fun little gun to hunt with.

This is "can't go wrong" purchase. I would skip the BOSS as a 270 doesn't need it, though.

Browning BAR Safari .270 with Nikon Monarch for the shooting houses. Remington 700 .308 with Zeiss Conquest for the stands. I like to lug around my Marlin .30-.30 every now and then too.

Yeah i probably wouldn't have gotten it with the boss if buying on my own but it does reduce the recoil of the .270 quite a bit. With the boss felt recoil on the .270 is more like a .243. Personally I wouldn't own anything larger than a .270 without a ported barrel if given the choice. Hell on the ears but great on the shoulder.

Okay, give me some advice here. I am a fairly new deer hunter as I have duck hunted my whole life. But my father in law has a deer lease and I am somewhat getting involved and interested.
I am under the impression that 30.06 is the best all around white tail gun. I have been deer hunting before and used my dad's browning 30.06 medallion. That is why I am interested in buying that gun, to stay with what I am more familiar with.
That being said, what is the OB's suggestions with regards to .270, 30.06, .300 or any other typical Louisiana deer hunting?

Primitive Season - H&R .34 Whelen
Regular Rifle Season - Tikka T3 .270 WSM
Went with the .270 WSM for the ballistics.

All three fine calibers, with very little separating them in the way of performance. That being said... I've never had a problem using a .30-30 in every place I've ever hunted in Louisiana or Mississippi.

.300 is probably a bit much. .270 and .30-06 are plenty enough. They'll probably be a big discussion that follows about which caliber to get, but most of the calibre mentioned will be plenty good enough for whitetail. You can't go wrong with .30-06 or .270

I shot a 30.06 for a long time, great round.
.270 WSM is faster, flatter and equal power.

I may not have the best advice as I duck hunt most of the time also, but it really depends where you're hunting IMO, the 30/30 lever is good for thick wooded areas and swamps. The .270 is more long range and the 30.06 and 300 give u the knock down power. I went with the .270 bc I thought it would be a good all-around choice
