pull the carbs and clean them, thats your only solution.

its a 2 stroke, fuel cleaning additives will reduce lubrication, so why risk it

plus, its just shy of being 30 years old, so congrats on owning such a great piece of history

to answer your question - seafoam is the best for regular maint, and for when you need strong cleaning use berrymans b12

seafoam will work to keep things clean, it also works to remove water from the gas tank, and its a fuel stabilizer as well.

i just wouldnt use any fuel system cleaners with a 2 stroke.

I have a 1995 Johnson Faststrike and the only thing I do is use non-ethanol gas in it. Boat stays laid up for 4 months durning hunting season and still cranks and runs when I start her up in February.

I do have a fuel/water filter I added couple years back that may help.

non-ethanol gas

When I found a local place that sold this, I haven't had a single issue with any of my motors, from small outboards to lawn equipment.

Eth is absolute rat poison.

I can't believe there hasn't been some massive class action suit against someone for something for mandating this shite in gasoline.

I’ve laid it up couple years back for 18 months when I exploded the lower unit. Finally found a used one in my price range, slapped it on and to my surprise she cranked up. Now I did get carbs cleaned and changed spark plugs but she still started.

I use stabil in ethanol free gas. Make sure whatever you add you're not adding enough to throw off the fuel/oil ratio significantly.

I have a old 94 Johnson 2 stroke. I love it and hate it, seems like I work on it as much as I use it. It's never left me stranded, though.

they are about to start shoving that E85 crap on us because the clear marking rules are about to expire. after that, any random pump could have E85 and not tell you

that is when you are going to see massive engine failures happening

Just do your best to get 100% gas. The nice synthetic oils help since they don't leave deposits but they aren't necessary.

I'm not a fan of any kind of solvent additive (seafoam) in a 2 stroke.
