I've recently switched to this, but I have killed about 10 times as many whitetails with a .30-30

Had to research this one. Seems like a great cartridge only down side is it doesn't seem to be commercially available and has to be hand loaded.

@ Barry:

The ole' "blister gun" is my #2 choice. #1 if I might have a slightly obscured shot.

+1
but I don't know why. Just something about it.

I'd also like to have a 25-06. I've heard that's a great whitetail round.

30-06 180 grain Remington Core-Lok

Tried all the fancy ballistic tips but came back to just the basic bullet. Cheaper and I have way better luck that I did with all that other crap.

Been there done that...

Fired many out of M134 into the mountain side or a barrels and shot up cars... from left side door gun position of Mike's huey...

Also flew his Heuy and Little Bird...

I qualified the Dillion Breech Bolt assembly for world-wide-use in the mini-gun!

You know I am suprised that know one has at least mentioned a 7.62x39...the SKS is called the poor mans deer rifle for a reason. SKS's have killed a many a deer. Hell an SKS is what i hunted with as a teenager. It was cheap so my dad got me something to hunt with.

30-06

reloaded shells. Boat-tail bullets

I'll challenge anyone w/ a .270 or 7mm. This round will shot as flat as the smaller bullets

I took my AK into the woods a few times but never had a chance to pull the trigger. I am sure it would do just fine on whitetail. I only wish I had bought five or six of those SKS rifles when they were less than $100.

270 150 grain Remington Core-Lockts

Yet to need to do any real tracking. If not dropped in there tracks all have been within eye sight after being shot.

.30-06 either 150 or 168 grain Remington Premium Core-Lokt Ultra.

Tried the Scirocco but found that the bullet might be too fast, doesn't expand on impact and you just have a small hole going in and a small hole going out. Had a couple of deer run a good ways after being shot with almost no blood trail. Switched back to the Core-Lokt Ultra.
