Let me know when you take Alx kayaking around Dularge. I may have to wake him for discussions on the rant

I take both into account. I definitely need to see a decent rise and fall (at least a foot). I will not fish at low tide, slack tides or on any moon phase over 75%. I also prefer to start fishing a little after the top of an outgoing tide. I catch shite loads of fish BTW.

Your best success will come around a full moon. You want to fish the first three days before the FM and the three days after the FM. Directly correlates to shrimping.. the bait move on these days the best.

So if a tide range shows 0.4, 0.7, 1.0, 1.3, 1.7, 2.0, 2.0, 2.1, 2.1, 1.8, 1.5, 1.2, 0.9, 0.6, 0.4

The best will be 1.0 to 1.7 and 1.8 to 1.2. Strongest tides dirty the water up and not much bait movement.

This is all dependant on what you're fishing for, and what kind of bait you're talking about. Most 'bait' GETS moved by the tide, rather than moving on it's own. Throw a cast net in a marsh drain on a falling tide. All that bait doesn't move there...it GETS moved there.

If you're fishing reds in marsh ponds, the best tide is one that's moving. The bait is in the marsh, and the falling tide pulls it out. Reds will be waiting at the marsh drains or around points for the bait to BE moved past them. When the tide comes in, the bait is BEING moved back into the marsh, and the reds will be waiting at points...but on the other side of the points...for the bait to be swept by. Redfish are ambush feeders for the most part.

For specks, I like to fish an incoming tide during the spring thru fall periods, because an incoming tide brings saltier and generally cleaner water. Specks like salty clean water. But in the winter, I like to fish a falling tide, because the specks will congregate in a deep (relative term) hole near a marsh drain and wait for bait to be swept to them.

As far as solunar tables, it's a well known fact that the bigger female trout are more active within 3 days before or after the full moon. That doesn't mean crap in December, because the fish aren't spawning then. In December, I'm probably gonna fish a tide that means there will be WATER. That's another thing, too...wind. In marsh fishing, wind has so much of an effect on tides, you can't solely rely on tide tables. If the tide table says high tide at noon with a 1.4' range, but the wind blows 20mph out of the north all day and the night before, I'll bet the tide doesn't rise one bit...and in fact, will fall like someone pulled the plug on the GOM.

So the answer totally depends on the situation.

Well put. I fish trout in those months too. And yes the winter is different. Shrimp catch is similar to the fishing, like a slide.rule based on those days. We'd max at1500 lbs and.then drop wqy down on those.slow tides or during the.full moon itself.
