Man I wish I knew, tree was there when we bought the place, but they are really good, some of the neighbors call them pear-apples, we peel them, slice them, boil for 10-15 min in simple syrup and can them, and they are an absolute treat, much better than my buddies from his pear tree. The one tree must of produced 2000 pounds of pears last year, ate and canned all we could, picked and brought home countless buckets for friends, neighbors up there picked all they wanted and still had way too many rot on the ground. I want to propagate that tree as well just to have a back up tree or two in case this one dies , I am going to plant a few cuttings in food plots too

So I read up on it, pretty much the process I stated above, but February is the time to plant, and the best time to propagate is during the active growing season, so if I work on that this year they would not be ready to plant till next year, would be happy to do it but looks like you will be ready sooner than the cuttings????

Thank you very much for the offer but the misses would like to see some vines in the ground. I do too so I can make wine.I’m gonna start on the trellis as soon as it’s dry enough to work on them.

I would like to have a variety like this.

I have seen a lot of sites recommend Anna and Dorset apples. Also looking at the stark golden delicious off of starkbros.com.

I have 1 Anna and 2 ein shemer apple trees I planted last fall. I had an Anna and ein the previous year but did a shitty job planting them and they died.

The new trees are about 3-4 years old so hoping to get a couple of apples from each this year. Will post pictures if they produce.

How so? Bad spot?

This is another issue I may run into. My backyard is on the north side of the house which will be good for everything except the satsuma tree and I would rather not plant it in the front yard. I might just have to plant it close to the house?

Satsumas will be ok even on North side of house. Just make sure it gets plenty of sun.
I have one on the west end of my house and it’s fine.

I didn't cover the dirt with mulch. Instead I let grass grow back, and it took the water from the trees.

Translation. You didn’t water it enough.

Sure thing, pear? Apple,? Muscadine? Couple of each?

This thread got me interested and I did some google research tonight and am going to give it a try, looks like I need to wait till early spring to start and should be ready in a few months?.

Looking for any advice I can find

I've tried these about 5 or 6 times and I've never had one make it past 3 years due to freeze or disease (what looks like rust spots). I gave up on trying

Prefer a few pears.

I’m not keen on apples Bc of cedar apple rust, we have too many cedar trees in the area.

If vines reach the ground, bury a section with some of the end sticking out of the dirt. It will root in about 30 days

For those of you that have done it, I’m looking for advice on planting a few persimmon trees in some food plots.

What type did you plant? Where in the plot to plant? Should I plant several for cross pollination?
