I have a ton of friends that duck hunt there. I'm not a duck hunter so I turn down every invite.

I get the opportunities, just don't need another expensive addiction

64 degrees is supposed to be the magic number for bass to spawn. Hopefully we can get rid of the cool fronts and 2+ inches of rain every couple days and the water will warm up

most the people I know who duck hunt down there can go during the week because they have jobs that are slow during the winter

I've killed a couple of deer that slept there and decided to take a stroll across the bordering creek

I've thought about buying a camp out there its just not worth it being flooded half the year

I think that's why most people buy camps out there. They collect insurance checks every few years when their camps get flooded.

Same here. Hunt private property in the area. Love Lake Mary, although I don't fish it near enough.

Have access to camp, but trout fish more in the spring. Always talked about perch jerking up there, but never do.

Have hunted on Millbrook HC some. Have hunted Loch Leven a few times as well.

Had a run in with the guy that owns Loch Levin last year during the flood. Seemed like a prick

I would imagine during the flood, tempers and nerves were pretty frazzled. And I know they deal with issues over property boundaries, especially during floods. Not saying you were in the wrong because I don't know the situation.

Know the owners and they are great people. Here's hoping you had isolated incident. Know another landowner in the area and they have many problems with theft during the floods.

If you don't mind, can you share your run in?

Every year when it floods hogs would cling to the levee and any high spots or trees. We went in and got 12 one morning. Had a guy at the landing with a cattle trailer who was taking them live. ( Had already talked to WL&F and they were ok with everything) Went back for round two and saw a guy at the camp. Stopped and introduced ourself. The guy was kinda a caretaker. Real nice guy. Told him what we were doing and he was all for it. Said they were riding out the flood there. Offered him a cleaned hog to cook and any assistance in the coming days. About that time the owner showed up with another guy. Got out his boat that he was hauling sand in by the buckets. Helped him unload the boat and talked for a minute. He was quiet and kinda staring us down. We left saying we were off to catch more hogs and he told us "Not on my land". One guy with us questioned what he said. His helper spoke up then saying he better not catch us on that side of the levee. We left without another word and they followed us out until they knew we were clear.

The guy has every right for us to not be over there. Kinda struck a bad nerve with all of us how he acted. We figured he would be happy to get rid of the hogs. He wasn't in the wrong and I guess you could say we were. Just didn't seem that way. We never set foot on his land and mainly just ride in the boat and find a swimming hog and grab it.

Feliciana Tigerfan,
i went and tried making a few drives for hogs on the spoil banks by the cridge in Cat island Sunday, but there was just not enough water. A couple of the ridges that run across the bean field were still dry, i assuming they were laid up in the CRP.
Left there and was hauling arse through the woods in my skiff heading to blackfork and ran up on 2 guys with 22's in a canook, i like to have sank them as they were on a tight trail around a corner and as usual i was running pretty good. Guess they were squirell hunting, but i didnt tell them they were way off the refuge.
Checked a few crawifish traps we had out for the past week, still plenty of bait and only about 8 crawfish in each, so we left them. the water is dropping pretty quick

Yea water is falling about a 1 1/2 feet a day and no big rise in the future. Is Bull Rat running any traps this year? Also heard Bubba got out the ice business and is gonna be running a bunch of lines and traps. Hopefully we'll have some water for Good Friday ride.

yeah, he has out about 118 traps right now, he caught a little over 2 sacks Friday.
Consensus to be everyone thinks they are going back in the hole with the water fallings out and too much rainfall

Bass fishing is decent a Lake Mary. Better in the summer when they are chasing shad. Usually anywhere you can find flowing water you can pick up a few.
