1) The kind who call you up before opening weekend and ask how the deer are looking. Or they call you in early May and ask how your boat is running? Are the specks on the beach yet? What's your schedule like the next couple of weekends?

Are you this guy? Don't be this guy.

2) And then there are the kind who call you months before the season. And bring two trucks worth of equipment. And help you fix leaking plumbing. Or replace a rusted hot water heater in July. Etc. Etc. You know who you are.

Many thanks to the OBers on this board who have helped get the season started. You need not be called by name.

This weekend's build was a Kid and Family Friendly Deer Stand Staircase. Looks simple enough. Three carpenters and an assistant never took a break and finished in 7 hours.

And finally, the View To the Kill from inside the hot box. Great to have this one online before Youth Weekend in two weeks. Food Plots are coming on pretty good. This rain will get them into the Nitrogen and they will start rolling.

Last time I was on a deer lease, I was building shoot houses, I don't hunt.
Fishing, I like to fish alone and do it as often as I can.

You to know you don't have to build to the CFR for a shooting house? I appreciate over engineering, but I've never seen a deck on a stand before.

We purposely over engineered this to accommodate women, kids, fat rednecks, and old people. Which, cumulatively, is about 80% of our population base.

We have plenty of lockons 18' up trees for the younger nimble crowd to bowhunt from. This is to give novice hunters and kids a place to feel comfortable climbing in and out of a stand. Plus, my father is 79 and still likes to go. He can climb this staircase without having to worry. He's not much with ladders anymore.

Our philosophy is that it's not important how hard you go. It's just important that you do go.

ETA: I have no idea what CFR is, and don't care!

Good job, no fricking doubt.

Code of Federal Regulations...and It looks like you actually are "to Code". (Not my job nor has it ever been to inspect building Codes, but after seeing all of the stairs and handicap ramps on FEMA campers I feel qualified to say such)

I remember growing up we had a guy who always duck hunted with us. And he was an arse. And when he was gone my dad and his buddies talked crap about him. When I got old enough I asked why he was always invited. And they said:

"He's got a big 4wd Suburban. And a badass boat. And he's a great caller. And he always has a great dog."

And a lot of times that's enough.

I've got a lot of 1's and a couple of 2's. You really know who your buddies are when you get a tractor/truck buried up and no help in sight.
