My club is in Morton, AR. I agree with everything that's been said.
I'll add that I have neoprene waders and would highly recommend them for hunting in AR. It can get very cold. Don't skimp on quality to save a few $. I'd also say the same on your coat.
I have a Columbia and a Drake and really like both. Your coat and your waders are the two things that will keep you from being absolutely miserable out there on a cold and rainy day.

The benelli supernova is legit, I also have one and have hunted with nothing but pump shotguns
I 2nd everything else said, my no. 1 pet peave with new hunters is pulling up and shooting too early, just wait for their signal to shoot and u will be fine.
Being in central ark, I hope u have deep pockets bc it's addicting as hell

Wow that is terrible. Safety is definitely something that needs to be stressed while any kind of hunting
novice hunters have a tendency to stay on a bird flying lt to rt or vice versa and can "follow" that bird still shooting and accidents happen. Also be aware of those you hunt with doing the same, sometimes birds come in and it all happens very fast and if I'm not up ready for the birds in time I will just sit that group of birds out and stay low. Does that make sense?

Oh yea. I've seen people shoot the skeet towers. They just keep following their target.

And using my $800 shotgun to keep myself from going completely under water.

And nothing wrong with a pump. People will give you shite about it though. I tend to focus on my 2nd shot better with a pump than an automatic. And I typically waste my 3rd shot with automatic hoping to get lucky, with my pump I know there isn't time.

I've always hunted with pumps and had my last supernova for about six years and killed plenty of ducks with it. I just upgraded to a xtrema 2. Definitey don't shoot over someone's head sucks when you cant get ringing out of your ears. Also if you're in blind keep your head down and ask the caller to tell you where they are front or back and have a code word to jump up and shoot. Always keep it on safety and make sure you reload after you shoot. Pulled up a couple of times with only one shell in the gun

I just don't see how something like that happens

Leave the calls at home all you need is a few decoys, hunt on christmas morning the day of the NFL playoffs & when the weather is not suitable for any living thing.
Ducks can be found in many places so dont be discouraged because you dont have a blind or in a club where all the "Real Duck Hunters" hunt dont worry if there is water there is usually ducks.
Skinny water smaller streams with a kayak or canoe and a piece of burlap can be fun as hell to float. I like being mobil w/boat with a blind.
Hit the sand bars out on the white river you can get a lot of geese flying up and down that river but that river can get dangerous.
Dont count out the late afternoon vs early morning hunting.
Tell your family your are taking up duck hunting see if they have any old decoys or calls if so they could be worth a ton of money sell them to pay for your new obsession.
If you do go hunting with an experienced person paint your face nothing shines brighter in a blind than a new hunter with a big ole bright white face looking up at ducks and watching them flair.
Know the regs laws regarding shooting times etc.
My experience I have never met a United Stated Fish and Game enforcement person that had a sense of humor state guys and gals are fine the Federal Agents not so much This is federally regulated.
Pattern your gun and chokes to see what each choke and what each shell does at 40 yards, you can search the internet for more info on that.
Practice shooting I think we owe it to the game to take it as efficiently and quickly as possible that means being a proficient shot.
Nothing is worse than having your dog go dispatch a winged goose 1/4 mile away in a field during a local high school cross country meet because of a bad shot shitty PR for hunters this is where the face paint helps disguise you from the neighbors
Have fun, be safe, put all your gear on and go jump in a pool see how helpless you are, have a plan.
The water is damn dangerous add crazy weather and it can get hairy.

Dont shoot over peoples heads, or swing your gun too far left or right. Keep your gun on safety until you are ready to pull the trigger
Do not pull the trigger to see if the safety is on
Do not shoot a hole in the bottom of the boat
Do not forget to unload your gun leaving the blind
Do not assume your hunting buddies gun is empty when they hand it to you
Do not be embarassed when you miss birds most people miss more than they hit
Do not hunt ducks for the meat if you want meat go deer hunting
Do not assume just because a guy is calling that he knows what he is doing
Do not let others take credit for a bird you might have hit (if it was in the general direction you shot and it falls always claim it

Why didnt you inquire with Benelli about that. The last thing they want to see is a blown up barrel on every duck hunting forum in the nation.

I've seen my friends videos from their hunts and it is the three of them jumping up shooting and all of them saying mine, mine, mine
They claim whatever they want or think I suppose

You stumble or whatever and plug your barrel with mud and the next shot chances are your barrel will look exactly like that pic. A shell that has seen moisture fires but the wad hangs in the barrel is another way. If you think anything is odd stop, unload, double check for unload, and check the barrel.

Yea I understand how that could happen or is possible...I guess I take extra care of my gun even when in junk areas.

That happens more than people like to admit. I have seen folks try to call it in with no luck. The manufactuer would lose its arse if they replaced every barrel that this happened to.

It was pouring down raining that morning. I keep my gun on my shoulder pretty much at all times. The only thing I can think of is rain got all into the barrel and got the wad stuck. Next shell came through and POW. Scared the living hell out of me and kicked me back into the water on my arse.
It had nothing to do with a bad barrel.

Also, as some pointed out. NEVER pull the trigger to check if the safety is on or not. We had a friend who was killed a few years ago because one of his buddies was a newb and did this. Shot him at point blank right in the ribs.
Always assume your friend's gun is loaded when taking a gun from him. Handle with care.
Never follow a duck too far if you are not on the edge of a blind.
Always keep your safety on when not shooting.
And my all time mother freaking pet peeve...if you are in a field blind...DO NOT STAND THE GUN UP!!! Hold your gun! An uncle of mine was killed in this way..the gun starts to slide when bumped and can possibly go off once it hits the floor.

Get your barrel cut down to about 18". Your buddies in the blind will really appreciate it.
