Any dead wild hog is better than any living wild hog, so I'm going to go ahead and say I understand your sentiment, but make an exception for hogs.

I do not think twice about killing a hog and letting it lay. Coyotes gotta eat too.

But intentionally gut shooting any wild animal with intention to make it suffer is sadistic sociopath shite and you shouldn’t be allowed near a gun.

Eh, leave that one out. Since the wolves are mostly gone coyotes have filled the niche in a lot of places. They have their purpose.

Can’t remember if it was on here or another forum but I read an article that basically says we are responsible for the rise/spread in coyote numbers - once you kill all of them from one area, and the female calls out to locate males, they won’t hear any and move into a new area that has other males. Pretty interesting take but it makes sense. That said coyotes aren’t nearly the nuisance that hogs are.

It still a nuisance, not nearly as bad down here, but other places that arent infested with hogs they are very much a big deal.

Even deer are pests. Dont know why that got downvoted, probably someone that hasnt seen crop damage before.

Do you eat rats?

Some of the larger ones aren’t good to eat.

None should suffer through a gut shot though.

I wouldn’t purposely shoot a hog in the gut but if my freezer had enough pork I wouldn’t care about wasting one

We get rid of rats by letting them drown in their own blood.

Two things I want eradicated. Hogs are 1 of them. And spiders that build webs across trails. I pull the spiders legs off one at a time. Leaving enough life in em for them to tell all the other spiders to stop that shite.

My hate for hogs is unhealthy.

Hogs are my favorite thing to hunt AND eat but given the damage they do to farmers' livelihood, I understand their hatred for and actions when they shoot em and leave em.

To those who say give them to someone, it's not always that easy. Getting no them out of the wood and in a t imply manner- depending on the terms, etc.

If you would see skunk, opossum and armadillo at the supermarket like you do pork, I guess that would make sense.

Just do a quick Google search on feral hogs and their effects. They are nasty pigs, and they are very very destructive little rascals (estimated $1.5 billion/year in damages). So, I am all for anything and everything that can be done to minimize their negative impact on agriculture, forests, and wildlife.

I was a wildlife biologist in my previous career and we were required to kill all invasive species. Take nutria for example. We were required to kill them after all work with them. The state even has a bounty on them. It was $4 / tail back then. Not everyone was keeping nutria and eating them. Most people would kill them and cut the tail off and just leave them for the gators. I know it goes against what we were taught but it's the right thing to do in these situations.

I know a lot of people who will shoot one and not make an effort to retrieve it.

My best friend has farm land directly beside a landowner that intentionally released them (dumb). They are getting worse on his crop. Night time hunts are fun.
They all get wasted. They are a nuisance.

Got a holt in our neck of the woods about 15 years ago. It was nice to get some pork at first. Love to eat them. Mfers multiply faster than we can eat them though. Started killing and leaving a few along the way. Freezer stays full and hog population continues to rise. What ya gonna do, ya know?

Hogs are thick in my area, have been for some time. While I hate what they’ve done to the ecosystem, I’ve started to look at the glass half full and have fun with it(as humanely as possible of course). I now enjoy eradicating hogs. Plenty of them and plenty of ways to hunt them. Live traps, snares, catch live with dogs, thermals at night, blowing them up with tannerite, shoot them out of helicopters (never done it but it seems like a hoot).. And you can do it 24/7-365.

Whether you enjoy it or not, it needs to be done and done as efficiently and humanely as possible.

As far as “wasting” them, if you’re doing your part to control hog population, you won’t be able to eat them all.

I think I heard this on the meateater podcast. If I remember right some states without hogs have preemptively banned hog hunting to try and keep folks from having an incentive to move them

Has nothing to do with them being edible. They’re a nuisance animal. There is nothing wrong or unethical about killing them and leaving the carcass. Your point is foolish. If you feel compelled to eat them, do so. But don’t give shite to the guys who don’t.
Are you an animal rights activist trying to make a point or just trolling here?
