I had a cheap model that was destroyed by the flood. When I bought it, I was mostly bagging stuff that was dry or very close to dry. I want to get another one but was wondering if there are certain makes/models that would do better with wet contents, like fish or shrimp.

Or maybe there is just a technique to working with those kinds of contents that I don't know about.

Most regular vacuum sealers are designed to only seal 3 or 4 times in a row before going in to a cool down shut off. I purchased the gamesaver last summer and it can do about 80 consecutive seals. I've been sealing up a bunch of fish fillets and it has been great so far.

This is the one I have. I think the O/B recommended it to me. You have to check the drip tray every few bags to make sure there isn't too much liquid in it. I've started double sealing as well.

my dad has this one and likes it

If you don't mind spending a little more for an excellent quality sealer, look into the chamber sealers

Some are $1000+ but I think they have some in the $300+ range

My dad has 2 of them. Someone he knows is married to a chinawoman. They said when she would go back to China she can get him one for 300$ When it came in all the instructions were in Chinese. The nice chinawoman had to come explain how to use it.

After about 6 years he thought that one broke. So he got a new one from the nice chinawoman. The new one came with a spare seal so he put it on the old one and voila it now works also.

He uses the shite out of them. Last year he made over 200 lbs of sausage and vacuum packed all of it in one day.

We have a Foodsaver. It’s been a workhorse. Can also seal things without using the vacuum, my wife uses it for decorated cookies.

Do you have access to a Costco? Saw they had a discount running on Foodsaver Vacuum sealers and bags.

I have been using a food saver gamesaver plus turbo for over 5 years. Paid $279 at academy and it has done a great job. I find it best to double seal the ends. Only way to freeze fish imo

For seafood like fish in shrimp, I usually just put them in freezer ziplocs and fill with water. Make sure you get air bubbles out bc that's what will cause freezer burn. Takes longer to thaw, but ziplocs are a bit cheaper than the vac sealer bags.

Plus: if you lose power, more frozen water in the freezer will keep it cold longer

Minus: Takes up more space in freezer.

The Ary line aren't too expensive and well reviewed. This is their entry level:

I have that vacmaster and it’s awesome!! I have zero complaints about mine and I’ve had it for a couple of years now. It is heavy and big but I was prepared for that.

I've had a foodsaver for over a decade and it has worked pretty good. I always lose a couple packs of fish after it is put in the freezer due to air pockets in the bags. I just packed up about 35 packs of Amberjack, grouper and mangrove snapper this week and when I finished I pulled the trigger and ordered a Weston 2300 commercial grade. I have high expectations for it and come July after a Red Snapper trip I will put it to the test.

There are a few methods. One is to place the fish/shrimp in the freezer to lightly freeze them. This reduces the amount of water that the sealer has to pull. Another method I use frequently is to fold a paper towel and place between the contents and the bag opening. It slows the water enough for the sealer to pull a vacuum and seal.

I have an older FoodSaver and it has always worked perfectly with wet sealing. It is easy to clean. I have sealed tons of deer meat, steaks, fish, shrimp, crawfish tails, etc. and none have gone bad in the freezer. I always pat them dry with paper towels before sealing (just to get surface moisture off of them). There's also a switch the differentiates between wet and dry. I don't know what it does because 100% of the time I've just left it on wet.

Mine is like this one, but white: LINK

I have one but have to semi freeze what I want to seal or it draws up as it freezes and leaves a space/air.
