What is the right amount of time to spend on a hobby?

You have an opinion on how much time other men devote to recreation?

lol, EF Hutton was/is Lamplighter from the old Bayou Bucks hunting forum. Was same way there, his methods were always the right way and hated any younger fella have success.

Kinda liked having him around just to read his crazy reactions. He truly was the grumpy old man.

No clue who Taxman was/is.

Thanks man. I’m happy with it. I slept in a tent the past couple seasons so this is definitely a step up from that. Also, it’s light enough that I can pull it with my 4 wheeler in the bed of my truck and still get 15-16mpg.

I almost feel sorry for this guy. It’s gotta be a miserable life to worry about what dudes on the internet spend on their hobbies.

I have this thought pretty regularly. I’ll slip in to a spot real quiet, everything will go smoothly while hanging my sticks and platform, I’ll be early, and then it’ll pop into my head, “man I ain’t gonna see shite, I’m way too prepared.”

Don't confuse curiosity with worry. You can spend yourself and your entire family into bankruptcy and I could not gaf less about it.

FTR, the well heeled dudes that I know(several), that can blow off 6-8 weeks of work to hunt, don't give a fiddlers frick about the fuel mileage of their trucks.
That is just more evidence that you spend more than you should on a hobby

This isn't a flame. But I'll take the bait.

We have a culture here on the OB of being respectful to one another. If you can't honor and appreciate that, then this place isn't for you.

Another way to put it: Be nice, or leave.

Well I mentioned I don’t have one, so I’m able to spend basically whatever I want on hunting. Not that it’s any of your business though.
Also, better fuel mileage=less stops when trying to get to where I want to go. Not really understanding how any of this somehow makes me poor

In 2024 I’m amazed people still put atv’s in truck beds without a guard dog hitch and when trailers are so cheap

I didn’t know what a guard dog hitch was, but your comment made me look them up. I was going to order one, but I leave on Monday morning to come back up here and it wouldn’t have been delivered in time. I figured for shits and giggles, I’d check Facebook marketplace. Turns out a guy was selling one not too far from where I’m hunting. Met up with him today to pick it up. I really appreciate your comment

Been running one for close to 20 years...one of the best investments I made because I hate dragging a trailer everywhere. You won't regret it.

Lamplighter from the old Bayou Bucks

Thats a name I haven't heard in forever. I have met some really great people from that forum who I still keep in touch with to this day, but yes Lamplighter was a total "Get off my lawn" douche bag type who used to infuriate me with his fountain of bullshite.

The worst is when you find a spot that you know just looks absolutely amazing and should be covered in deer because it's almost picture perfect and you dedicate way too much time to it, only to never see shite and it turns out to be a gar hole

Same here. Was on there from the early days. Made a ton of friends that I still keep in touch with and text/talk on a daily or weekly basis. Ah the good ole days.

My bank account is the main thing that goes up and down from hunting and fishing, mostly down.
