That sucks. I'd be pissed. I don't know how far deer travel in the kind of woods you hunt, but in the swamp I hunt 300 acres is nothing. Deer are sometimes killed miles away from where we get pictures of them. And no doubt during the rut we kill some bucks that were nowhere near our property all year before.

Nah no need to regret letting someone else shoot it.

If you know who it was and know they're a shite head then by all means regret away. Otherwise, you might have still done a good thing. Could be their biggest deer ever.

You're not a dumbass for letting him walk. Thats just the way it goes sometimes.

Shooting a deer just because you dont want someone else to is not a great reason. If you weren't completely sold on killing it, you did well to pass on it.

Maybe next year youll get a shot on a buck that someone else passed on.

Agree with this. And OP are you sure it was even the same deer you let walk?

Yea I'm certain. He was the last "good 8" the club had on camera. The evening I saw him working a scrape, turns out he was getting his picture taken by a game cam a guy set up on that scrape.

Unlike " The Last Buffalo" this isn't the last buck. More will be born and new ones will show up and life goes on.

Have bigge fish to fry anyway. Like my wife's step dad letting a guest hunt with directions to shoot anything without spots so the shot at, in his words, he thinks is a spike

Let it go, it was not a trophy for you, maybe it was for the other hunter

By reading everyone else's posts, I'm reminded how shallow insecure and negative my life is.

And y'all are correct btw.
