Thought he sold his place in Woodville and bought a new one?

Was it poaching or some type of trauma?

Years ago I was in Illinois heading to my lease to hang a stand for the afternoon hunt. I was several miles down a gravel road in an area the locals call The Bottoms. There is a stretch there of about 15 miles where there isn't a single house Nothing but tractor sheds, fields and woods.
I see this hunter walking towards me, bow in hand, literally 5 miles from the nearest home. I slow down and immediately recognize it's Ben McDonald. I ask him if he's okay and he tells me that he's hunting with a local outfitter. He's shot a deer but has to make a flight out of Evansville, Indiana in the next couple of hours and needs to get back to the lodge. The guide had forgotten about him needing to leave early.
Anyway, I'm in my old Toyota 4Runner and watching Ben try and fold himself into the front seat was pretty funny.
We get turned around and I start messing with him. Where you from buddy? What do you do for a living? Baseball player? Hell you say! Would I know you? So he starts telling me about his pro career and you can tell he's not really fond of talking about himself.
We reach the lodge and we get out to get his bow from the back and I say, "and didn't you play a little ball at LSU"? I reach into a bag by his bow, pull out my LSU cap and stick it on my head. He looks at me, starts grinning and says, "you sorry arse."
He signed my cap for me and off I went. Good guy.

If you could afford it would you be against fencing, especially in Louisiana ?
It's to keep predators and riff raff out.
Go look at the Louisiana Deer Hunters facebook page and you see all you need to know, there hasn't been a deer over 3.5 years old on it all year. Maybe the one from Davis island, all the others are still on the tit

I don't know about now, but about 10-12 years ago he had a high fence property just off of Liberty Rd right near Sandy Creek WMA. I believe it was S. Palestine Rd.
I knew a fella who's father owned the property right across the road which was also high fenced. This fella also had about 60 acres not fenced and I decided to hunt that instead of inside since I could only take a doe inside.

If I had the money to do that I wouldn't be hunting a damn thing in LA.

No I would not.
I have enough money for a pen now!! I could build a bad arse rabbit pen and shoot the shite out of some trophy rabbits!! I don’t do that because what’s the point?
I’m not against him having a pen but it is what it is and acting like a 170in deer in that pen that died is something on par with finding a deer that caliber in wild is no where near the same.

If I was interested in animal husbandry and raising livestock, sure why not high fence. If I had that kinda money, Id just buy a second place to hunt in the Midwest to kill giants and keep a Louisiana place to have fun on.

Same. Other than catching trespassers I hate those with a passion as well.

Yall are better men than me.
Not a fan of the high fencing at all but checking cameras cards are fun. Especially if you are far from the property and can't spend as much time on it as you would like.
