Man that's no joke. She likes to hide just under the waterline at high tide. Have to swing wide around flat boat, that flat on the northwest tip likes to shuffle around. But talk about some smoked trout in the spring. Aside from fighting the crowd, that's my favorite place to fish around May. A 1 knot tide tugging at a stringer full of big trout plays hell over that key

We've watched a couple boats that I assume didn't know the area come to a screeching halt on Flat Boat. Also watched a big ol center console attempt to run between Pitre and that small island just to the west of it. no bueno

i was working east side close to portage trying to stay out of the wind. But there were so many birds working the bay that it looked like people were catching fish all over the place. The trout haven’t really moved in yet, but there are still enough there to make it fun. Redfish are pretty thick though.

heard that, thanks. We'll see what the weather ends up doing

UPDATE 2: Stopped at Rabbit Island (west side Lake Borgne at Rigolets), anchored and fished marshes along ICW Friday and Saturday. Motored home today through a 'spirited' cold front...wow.

Caught quite a few reds to small keep, enough small (13-15") specs for a couple of meals, a flounder and black drum (or sheepshead). Great time had by all. I'll definitely go back and hopefully get the Biloxi Marsh and Chandeleurs next trip.

Thanks again to all who helped with info!

Just curious what y'all were throwing? Artificials or livebaits?

mostly life shrimp, but also dead shrimp and artificial (white grub, gold vudu shrimp et)...all on a popper cork in 1-2' water.

LOTS of small fish taking baits, couldn't find the big ones

I'm a rookie and this and was told it was a black drum by one person and sheepshead by another. I think it was a black drum

Yep. That's a black drum, not a sheepshead

Would that be considered a puppy drum?

Puppy drum to me would be in the 16-19" range.

The one in the picture is good eating size. My cutoff for redfish/black drum is around 22". Anything legal under that is usually coming back in the ice chest.

Bayou Biloxi marsh is easily accessible with your boat if you go in through Bayou Biloxi. In fact with a 4.5 ft draft you can go almost 3.5-4 miles into Bayou Biloxi itself and anchor without any problems at all. Joka's Wild is an 86 ft yacht that docks about 4 miles into Bayou Biloxi from the entrance of Lake Borgne.
