Ok guys here is a way we all can help the Wheeler family. I know all too well what this board is capable of for others in a time of need. Wheeler is doing remarkedly well this evening, per recent FB posts by his father but there will be a monetary need for rehab and other bills going forward.

Happy to donate , and I am sure the family will put all money raised to good use, but the state and workers comp had better be picking up the tab for medical treatment and rehab

Yes, but there will also be numerous other ancillary costs that people never think of. My mother was run over by a drunk driver eight years ago while walking in her neighborhood one afternoon and had to undergo nine weeks of intense inpatient rehab to relearn everything in her life from brushing her teeth to talking to eating to etc. The travel expenses alone on the family for long-term rehab are often a huge hurdle. I know the family and can assure anyone that all funds raised will go to great use for this senseless tragedy.

the state worker's comp program is a good one, but there is always a lot of financial burden on the family that they have to bear. disability pay is only a percentatge of normal pay. he will likely be treated in some out of town facilities for a hell of a long time, so if family wants to be present, they either have to sleep on a couch for months or a hotel room.

25 year old Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Agent was shot five times early Saturday morning by a female during a routine traffic shot. Two rounds to the head. Wife and child at home. The shooter has been arrested and charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

Even if there is a long term disability plan in place, there could be an offset in the policy if he starts receiving comp benefits. Or, the long term disability may even be discontinued b/c this occurred w/n the course and scope of his employment. Depends on the policy.
