Interesting info. These come from a female I butchered and are in a cattle Lick tub with humus. Chance of them hatching is slim but I had one make it last year.

I use that term, still. You'd be surprised how many people don't know what that means. Even in Evangeline Parish.

I moved them to 100 gal stock tanks after hatching. They can still hatch even if removed from a female because most of the time they are "ready" to be laid, it's just the female waits to when she has enough energy to dig and is in a prime location. Hatching usually takes 80-120 days so its a bit of a wait. I found the survival rate higher in buckets because they were protected with grates over the top from predators and they were forced to stay around their egg, where they could eat the high nutrient egg sacs.

We get those in our pool by Chef Pass, don't worry. They're safer than the fiddler crabs that invade the pool in late summer.....
