Currently on my way down I-10 to the Florida panhandle to “hopefully” get on a long beard this weekend. First turkey hunt in 2 years and I’m pumped. Any other baws chasing them this weekend?

Try to get a buddy to set up behind you 50 or so yards and call. I’ve done that with birds that like to hang up. Frustrating when they do that.

You aren’t setting up in the right spot. Get closer.

Chasing near Cotulla, TX this weekend. Birds quiet on the ground. The two we got, came in silent at midday.

Moving to N Tx next weekend for youth weekend.

Got one Saturday. Never been much of a turkey hunter but I am now. Brother was calling and we had two groups of three Tom’s converge on us and started fricking brawling 20 yards from us. It was wild.

We went back out Sunday morning and heard a few....even got one talking back but couldn’t get him to come. Just talking to them was fun.

I don't turkey hunt, but I'm curious - why is turkey hunting with a rifle illegal in many places? What's the reasoning behind it?

Because it's total chickenshit, akin to hunting deer at night with a spotlight, "fishing" using electricity, and shooting ducks on the roost at dark.
