I'm doing a DIY public land archery elk hunt in Paradise Valley, MT this September. I'm heading up there the last weekend in June to scout/camp/fly fish. I'm going to bring 2 cellular trail cameras with me to leave out there until September.

The cellular coverage maps show good AT&T 3G and good Verizon 4G & 3G in my primary hunting areas in the Gallatin Netional Forest.

So what are your recommendations?

Been looking at the Snypers because they are priced pretty good ($249) for a cellular cam, and reviews seem to be good. But the Snyper is AT&T only, and Verizon has 4G coverage. Will 4G even work on a trail camera?

I'd go the cheapest route as possible in the event they are stolen.

cheapest one I can find is the wildgame crush cam. $159 seems almost too good to pass up no?

We use Spartan cameras. They work great but sometimes will lose signal in the low signal areas. I’d highly favor the ones with better signal service. If you lose signal you have to physically be there to reset it. In some of the bottoms we will lose signal just because the signal is weak to start with. If the signal is strong it’ll be fine for long periods of time. Overall these are great cameras. We also lock ours to the tree with a cable bike style lock.

I would strongly advise going to Trail Cam Pro
And read the review on each cellular camera. They do testing and thorough reviews.

I went with a pair of the StealthCam GXW wireless trail cameras. They were the best camera within my budget and they only work off of AT&T or T-Mobile, which provided the best coverage in the area I’ll be using them in Oklahoma.

Check the Montana laws. They’ve been illegal for a while, but maybe there is wiggle room.

That is pretty close to Livingston. I have Verizon and it worked fine going through Livingston last fall. ( But I was going north out of Livingston. )

I have Spy Point that works well, however the batteries will die between June and September.

I’ve checked the laws. They’re illegal in season only. And that is for cellular only. Manual cameras in season are legal. Any camera is legal out of season.

What's the battery life on any of those? Will they last more than 30 days?

Yes, most will last well over 5 months with regular settings and lithium batteries

Ones I have used:

Spartan HC cameras
Pro: works great, has a great app and website, easy to use, long battery like (3 months)
Con: cell coverage needs to be at least 3 bars, have to pay Spartan to use all the features such as remote change of settings, expensive

Synper Commander 3G
Pro: cheaper, works at 1 bar or less of signal
Con: setup wasnt super easy, app isnt the best, can only text to 1 number and rest of hunters use app, night photos just average.

All in all my next wireless camera would be the Synper due to cost and coverage. Nothing is more frustrating than for a wireless camera not sending you pictures.

Sure, if you want to drive back up there a week later to replace it because it broke.
