First thiong nOt a powerboat person, been there done that, and sail too; however have run big 15-20 foot waves in a canoe and we always quarter them.
There it's better to go up and over at a angle, so you better fit into it's wave period (wave-to-trough-length), and slow is better. This keeps the bow from getting stood (as bad) and stern from getting pushed down. In them you can get cartwheeled otherwise (back and over) and I'm guessing that's also theoretical once a powerboat get's inundated. The angling also helps to keep the boat flatter since it flattens the steepness. IE: Same elevation - Spread over a great length. eta: Of course you'd have to angle back the other way... and then again... in a narrow inlet (change back and forth if the waves keep going on).
Yes or NO ?
Unless there is a lot of room in the inlet it wouldn't be an option...but it is somewhat of one at sea with room to maneuver...
The problem with most inlets isn't wave height it is the period...4-5 footers 40 seconds apart are pretty manageable...10 - 20 seconds apart would be a slaughterhouse....add this to the confusion of seas in most inlets due to abrupt changes in bottom contour and the energy of wave, wind and tide and, to top it off, maybe a sizeable wake from another boat, and things get exciting quick....especially in man made passes and inlets like Haul Over. If the ocean has been working its magic on a pass for eons of years the two have worked out their difficulties for the most part...but if it is a brand new pass in geologic terms the two are like newlyweds...tempestuous and often passionate and argumentative simultaneously....

It is not unusual to fish the Pacific in wave heights that would keep Atlantic and Gulf Coast boats on the hill....but the Pacific is a sleepy child compared to the Atlantic or Gulf....because generally speaking the period is such that swells are almost unnoticeable....a 10 foot swell in the pacific 2 minutes apart is a gentle rocking motion...where that same swell in the Gulf most of the time at 40-60 seconds apart is terrifying...

I spent an hour yesterday watching vidoes from Haulover Inlet and dumb boaters videos from the same guy. There are some scary stupid boaters out there. And there is a lot of dang money in Boats in Miami too. Jeeze.

The number of $100K to $10 Million boats between Melbourne and Key West will boggle the mind....it never ceases to amaze me each time I am on a boat anywhere in that area how many people own a VERY expensive boat. Used to be that Fort Lauderdale was the most densely populated area of the world for boat owners...on average almost 2 registered in the city for each resident. Considering the maintenance and depreciating value inherent in boats its a wonder there is a penny left in south florida.

It may be the same guy but there are also videos of those "Captains" performing close quarter maneuvering at Black Point Marina on YouTube...amazing how a person can come up with a $1 Million for a center console boat with 4-35os on the back but can't get the thing to a dock without beating the boat and the dock to death....
