Adopted a 5 year old weenie dog from the shelter with some bad breath. I cleaned all the big pieces of tarter/plaque off his teeth with a pair of needle nose pliers and a pick. Any tips? Gave him those little greenie chews that are suppose to help but he gulps them down too quick to clean his teeth.
Thanks

Let the vet do it. It may be an infected tooth. I had an old hound with awful breath. Took her to get her teeth cleaned and they ended up removing a tooth that was infected. Bad breath went away.

There are all kinds of water additives, tooth pastes, and jells, etc, at most pet stores and Chewy.com. Do a search for "dog breath fresheners" and "dog bad breath remedies".

I'd call the vet and see which products they recommend.

Those greenies can’t be digested and will kill the dog.

Get the vet to do any necessary dental work and clean them then use Pedigree Dentastix. Our small dog had pure shite breath until we had some dental work done and started using them.

My vet gave me a sample chewable that helped my dog. He is too old to be put under.

Clean his arse, so when he licks it, his breath won't be so bad.
