Looking to swap out my Gatortail 37 for an outboard for the summers. I'm thinking a 50-70hp, with power trim. I have a built-in 12 gal tank in the boat, so don't want to have to mix my gas.

Looking at the price of used ones, it appears I'd be better off buying a used rig, and just taking the motor off and re-selling the boat and trailer. Or is buying new a better bet?
Anyone got any leads on any deals going, or looking to sell their motor?

I do this with my 1854 with a yamaha 90 2 stroke. It has an oil tank so I don't have to premix. It pushes me to about 40 but I need to get a more aggressive prop so I can cruise near that speed. It's a dog to switch it but I'm so glad I did. Beats the heck out of going 26 for 30 minutes to get to the fishing hole.

Exactly.. I don't want to use the loud, slow mud motor for cruising open water to the camp. I built the hull to be dual-purpose, so hoping the motor swap twice a year isnt too bad

Honestly, I would go with what your budget allows. The yamaha I bought was used, the right price, and came with a big tiller handle. There's a guy in slidell that advertises a lot that is a yamaha mechanic that refurbishes outboards. The 2 stroke is solid for sure.

I think this was worth doing back with the 35hp engines.

Now with the 37/40 the speed will not be that much faster.

I know a few people who put a 70 4 stoke on a gatortail boat and could only cruise at 35. So they spent a few grand to go about 3 or 4mph faster.

If the noise is that big of an issue I would keep both boats. One for ducks and one for fishing.

This totally depends on load and hull shape. I have a 37 gtr that will push me and nothing else 28-29. With a load I go 26 and with the same load I go 40ish with the outboard.

If you have the space and budget, get two boats. Otherwise, switch them out.

I don't really want to take up the room at home for 2 boats, and with a 6 month old that I want to take to our camp on the river, I'd really like a 4 stroke outboard. I'm selling my 98 Tacoma (yeah, I'm gonna regret it) and will use that money to fund the outboard.

The Slidell guy advertises on the internet somewhere?

Where does this gentleman advertise? Do you have a name? Asking because if I end up buying the boat I want by the end of the year I may need a Yammy 2 stroke 90.

You should definitely go bigger than that.

And sell me that 60.

I run a 50 tldi on a homemade 18x54. Tops out in the mid 30's and can cruise right at 30 with just about any reasonable load.

I can put 8 fat dudes in my boat and still run over 30, by comparison it wouldn't plane off with 4 with a prodrive

Have you considered going with a level 3 kit for the gator tail?

It does everything I need it to do like it is. I want something quiet for the wife/baby, and be able to hear my radio while I run, idle and talk to people, etc.
