not everything in a creek/river hits topwater

instance, smallmouth, HSB and some trout on days they don't want to hit topwater

Baitcaster you can flip it, drop it, stop it, slow it, and go under shite. If you can figure out how to throw a small bait, it would be something you should bring solely when fishing freshwater

The fact is they both have their place

Correct, and that place depends on the angler.
For me spinning gear is for finesse: wacky, shakey head, drop shot, etc.
I know a few guys that like to throw spinnerbaits and traps on them though.
To each their own I guess, as long as the bass are getting in the boat, I could care less what combo they are caught on.

Another unmentioned is how a spinning reel fricks up how nice and neatly stacked and untangled my rod box is.

I just got back into fishing pretty hardcore for the past 5 years or so. I have exclusively used a spinning reel for fresh and salt. I used a bait caster when I was younger, but when I got back into fishing, it was mainly saltwater, so I bought a couple spinning rigs. I have actually gotten to be really accurate with them. Even my hardcore bass fishing buddy was impressed with my accuracy. That being said, as I start to fish fresh more regularly, I am about to get the new Shimano Curado. Heard nothing but good things about them and I figured I would start with that one. One of the drawbacks to a spinning reel is line memory. I have avoided this lately by going exclusively to braid on most my rigs just to avoid it, but I want to get away from that. I am sure accuracy will be better with a baitcaster once I get back in the groove with it. I can tell you that I make some really stupid casts with my spinning reels and never get a birds nest. I'm talking about skipping, behind the back, over the top, alley-oop kind of casting. I guess I will need to get smarter about my casts anyway.

I was talking to a kayak snob a while back and he was dogging my spinning setup and my Ascend yak. The next week I caught a 7# bass with my spinning combo and my Ascend yak. He was pretty quiet after that.

That being said, like someone mentioned earlier, I don't care what people use to fish. I also don't care for people that genuinely think others are less of a sportsman who do not use bait casters. I know most of it is in good fun.

Moral of the story....this post was too damn long.
