I've been looking around on Craigslist and Boattrader for a boat. Looking to buy a boat for water sports/cruising the lake/river. I have zero experience with this. What are the questions I should ask the owner? What all do I need to find out before buying?

Also, about what should I expect Insurance to cost? I am 24 and have a good driving record. TIA

What you gonna do with it? Fish, ski, profile or just cruise? If you like the fishing part there bass boats and off shore type boats. You need someone that you know that has experience with boats - you are 24 and looking on craiglist or anyplace for that matter and really don't know anything about them you could get screwed very easy.

The two best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

Don't do it!

Leave the boating to the experts last thing we need on the Diversion is another newbie driving a boat!

Go to False River!

I am just messing with him... but it is true going to Amite/Diversion is always an adventure because of the people who don't know how to drive boats...

Insurance is literally a few hundred per year. I recommend you take a coast guard course on driving the boat. Get someone you know to help you with buying it so you dont get screwed. Most used boats are being sold for a reason.

Don't do it.

There's an old saying about boat owners. The two happiest days in a boat owners life are the day they by it and the day the sell it.
