Looking to purchase a thermal scope to do a little hog eradication at the property. What do you use? How do you like it? My philosophy is buy it right the first time and you won't have to buy it again.

Pulsar is really good and not as expensive as Trijicon.

I'm still doing my research before I buy anything. We don't have pigs around here much, YET.

but I hope to be ready when they get here.

if this is your philosophy, then everything i have read is stay away from ATN.

Right now is a great time to get a thermal. They are better than ever and pretty affordable. I would look into Pulsar Thermion, Bering Optics Hogster, Burris Thermals, AGM Rattler, and Fusion Thermals. These are all in the 2-4K range and really good optics.

Fun fact: the fusion thermals are a new line, but the company is a sister company to Sport Optics and Interstate Guns which are both based in Hammond, La.

That's a bit misinformed. I had a long discussion at a local shop that sells ATN and Pulsar, and while he stated that Pulsar is arguably better quality, the warranty and customer support he's gotten from ATN is better. So it's more a matter of even though with Pulsar you aren't as likely to need the warranty, ATN will be better to deal with. I'm not quite in the market for a thermal rifle optic right now but I'm leaning towards ATN over Pulsar right now for my budget and the models I've put my hands on.

I have had an ATN Thor-HD 640x480 2.5-25x for several years now and never had a bit of trouble with it. Also have a Pulsar monocular for scanning for targets. Pulsar makes a good product also from my experience. Not sure if all the hate comes from their cheaper models or what.

Their are 50 reviews on my particular model on optics planet and 42 are 5 star and 6 are 4 star.

640x480

This is what helps image quality along with a 12 micron core. Most come with a 17 micron core so once you zoom 2x off the basemag the resolution is back at 380x288-ish. Problem is the cheapest 12 micron cores usually start at $6-$7k.
Problem is most people see ATN thermals for $2k and think they are getting something good. I hunt with guys who have the base model ATN and it leaves a lot to be desired in the thermal world.
Nothing wrong with the upper end ATN 640 units

we have conflicting stories. Because everyone I have talked to says you can't get ATN on the horn and custom service really sucks.

have you scanned at night? you'll find pigs or at least one or two of the scouts.

I have none on trail cam, but still killing.

If you only have enough money for a cheap one then buy a green spotlight until you have enough. Much cheaper setup and you retain the same optic you use during the day.

Truth. I keep wanting a thermal, but I literally hunt hogs at night a couple times a year. Green light is the best option for me.

You say that but when once you start dropping hogs with the thermal you can't stop. It's so easy and fun.
My new pulsar is legit. This is a dog at 180yds. Going pop some yotes tomorrow night to break it in
